If it's any consolation, I've never really cared either way. 馃槣

I like it because of the history and the identity, but it's functionally useless for me and 99.9% of other owners. If they got rid of it on the next gen SMP, I'd go "Oh that's a shame" and then move on to complaining about how the Bond bracelet still isn't tapered.
Admittedly it looks odd without, but that鈥檚 because we are used to the silhouette with it.

INHO the PO version and older gen Seamasters version was much better looking than the current Reece鈥檚 Pieces one.

But removing it from the current Seamaster may elongate the lug length, as it breaks the eye now, visually.

But my god that bracelet needs to taper.

I've compared it side by side with the previous PO. The new clasp is not chunky at all. It has a much smaller footprint than the old, wide and thick clasp

waiting to see what is next for the Planet Ocean range.. I love mine though and I don鈥檛 think I will be intrigued by anything new, this is absolute PO perfection

I have to say the way this has sort of leaked out piece by piece is a bit annoying.

I get that they probably have some well orchestrated event lined up but the moment you let some of these boutique managers near the watch or the materials they immediately tell their closest 30 customers, and then those 30 go telling all their mates.

I said this to RJ years ago, the only reason the original Speedy Tuesday caught everyone by surprise the way it did, was the boutiques had nothing to do with it.

Interesting release for me! It's clearly, finally, omegas take on the 70s angular aesthetic that so many other brands have offered up in recent years including most recently Rolex. But what's interesting to me is the timing (rather late to the game!) and the choice of which line's original design language to drastically alter/sacrifice. Not the constellation or globe master or those other less popular ones. The PO! I would guess they chose to do it on the PO because it is mildly popular and more popular than those other categories I mentioned above, but probably felt redundant what with the other seamaster lines and the ultra deep. I think if they had done it on something like the globemaster there wouldn't have been enough hype or momentum to make it a success, but the PO might be popular enough that it does. I'm glad honestly they didn't introduce a whole new line (planet dweller anyone?)

How do Omega get it so wrong so often with their new watches. It wasn鈥檛 hard - keep the same general shape and profile as the current PO but make it thinner.

Perhaps we are looking at the first AI designed watch?

"Hey google, please redesign the planet ocean. Add more polygons, we are going for a TRON theme!"

Edit: I think I'm going to hold judgment, there's a lot about this I like my primary issue is the incredibly refractive polished look it has. Definitely something I need to see in person

I think its more some influence from the Land-Dweller in the bracelet and case, Omega made a lot of integrated bracelet references with that type for shape back in the day and probably wanted to sort of "cover off" that model from an aesthetic perspective, while differentiating the PO a bit more from their other divers.

Yeah, I think I'm being overly critical because of how insanely flashy it is. The planet ocean is not the dive watch I would have seen going this direction, but maybe that's actually not a bad thing.

I've got to admit, I did not like the he valve. Not at all. And then, I got myself an SMP.

And now, I can't really imagine there not being one on these divers!

Not me! I always wanted the Seamasters to keep the HEV. To me that's what helps separate an Omega diver from other brands.

Same here. It's one of THE main things that always used to define the Seamaster identity. I wouldn't want a modern SM without it.

It's not very encouraging that when your new release is leaked on the internet, people immediately assume it's an AI generated prank because it looks so off.

Honestly- the more I think about this and manage to look past the insanely flashy centerlinks, the more I think it's genius. The Planet Ocean has, for a long time, been like a 166/2254 inspired derivative of the modern SMP. This new design radically departs from the SMP design. A lot of it seems to lean into the ultra deep design, which already had foregone the He valve (and nobody complained about that decision that I've seen?). And it manages to call back to older retro/boxy styles.

It makes the SMP more distinct
Makes the PO/UD line a bit more cohesive and distinct
and the angular lines also drive significant distinction between the heritage and PO lines.

At the end of the day, this wouldn't be a watch for me but it does exactly what so many people want- creates more distinction between models and creates an additional dive watch option without an He valve.

And if nothing else it is drumming up TONS of debate and conversation. The only bad press is no press.

They still have that on the Seamaster Pro though, then straight lugs which were also a part of Omega's diver history on the SM300.

It was a bit crowded in their lineup when two of the three divers are so similar that the main differentiator is 300M vs 600M and extra fatness.

Given the flashing of the Seamaster 120M on Daniel Craig earlier in this year we might even end up with a fourth diver at some point with the more rounded cushion-like case of that model too. (I actually wouldn't mind some chunky cushion shaped diver lugs).

I guess then theres also the Ploprof, so 4 divers already.

The other side of the fence, you get Oyster case, or Oyster case, or Maxi Oyster case, or Super Oyster case or Jumbo Oyster case.

Or a Tudor.

I personally still think the Ploprof is where it's at though so my opinion is not that of a sane person.

I'd love to get one. What's holding me back is that my brother and my friend who owns the local watch shop both wear Ploprofs. I'll become a copycat fan boy if I start wearing one.

Haha... to me that's pretty much the only improvement I could spot. No longer a cheap hole in the dial where the applied numeral was supposed to be 馃榿
