Main launcher screen shows sports, wellness, utility, phone, horology.
Under utility it has calendar, weather, flashlight, settings. That's it.
When I got my first smartwatches (who remembers Pebble, Motorola hockey pack first Android watch, Samsung Tizen watches?), I was installing every possible app and every possible face (was one of the first testers of Watchmaker and Facer). Since then I've had every year's version of Samsung watches, few different Huawei, Swiss made LG with physical hands, plus few more) and E4 since 2022. And last few years I haven't used any apps on watches other than calendar, email, messages and wallets (Google wallet or Samsung pay). E5 has calendar, gets email notifications, I can live with it. The main missing app for me is the mobile payment, it's just very convenient to pay with watch in the store or at subway. I like the screen of E5. It has few new faces but all of them can be made in Watchmaker for E4 and earlier versions. I'm not a runner so I cannot appreciate E5 as a running watch.
Love the E4, had no problem in 3 years, still get 20 hours from battery, have all the straps fit it. I just wanted to get the new version, wanted to love E5 too. No love so far, hard to justify purchasing it, at least for me.

A Skipper watch face that loses its distinctive tricolor subdial when it switches to dim mode 🤦🏻
Most Apple users will buy Apple watch. Why? Because that's the only way to get true integration. Apple is a walled garden, and Apple depend on that to get users to buy their complete ecosystem. In the Apple world, Tag users are at best 2nd class citizens (and more realistically 3rd class given the gap in functionality). Inside 6 months this board will be full of E5 users complaining that a device that says "Made for iPhone" doesn't given them "proper" Apple integration
I cannot find anything about AoD in settings. Some faces keep colors in AoD, others go mostly black and white.
Very few options in settings, very simple OS. Back to early days of smartwatches.
I have selected Fahrenheit in settings, weather widget shows Fahrenheit, complication shows Celsius. Tried the watch to track treadmill session, worked well during it (similar to E4), synced session details (duration, steps, calories heart rate) with phone app, then watch crashed and restarted. After restart steps on watch were down to zero, even after an hour of being connected to the phone.
Too soon to talk about battery, but it seems to be better than E4. Screen is beautiful.
Not a single mention of AOD in the user manual. That's a huge miss.

There is an article on Hodinkee about E5.
"So better now than never, is the new Calibre E5 generation of the Connected, most notably now coming in a much more reasonably proportioned 40mm case size. While the previous iterations were all in 45mm, having both options is now a welcome sight."
This reviewer doesn't know about 42mm E4, how can one take their review seriously?
Just got the 45 with rubber strap (do not like the E4/E5 metal band). Really like the look of the watch (even though it is very similar with the E4), there are a few changes :
- The strap are now fully flush with the case (like on the E2). This is really nice and comfortable to wear.
- The lugs have been slightly modifies and there more brushed stainless steel and less shiny parts.. much better imho.
- Even though some watchfaces turn B&W in always mode, they are really bright.... Other watchfaces retains colors in a dim mode but the hands are very visible, hence it does not really look like you are wearing a smartwatch while saving battery life.... Good compromise imho.
Software wise, it is quite responsive (iPhone 13 user here).
There are missing stuff though, but I am sure this will come in future software updates :
- No weather forcast for the coming days (only coming hours).
- No Calendar widget nor complication. We should be able to select the next event time in the watchface's complications. This is a MUST !
- Again, despite my previous tickets for the E4, the alarm clock time is not showing on the "night view" when charging !
- No SPO2 menu ! (I though that was announced).
- No sleep tracking (but I read this will come year end).
Probably other missing stuff but let's see !
Overall, it is such a great looking smartwatch... I am looking at my Apple Watch 10 standing on my desk thinking I am missing the cellular connexion and the fall detection with auto emergency call but hey, I can't blame Tag Heuer for not being my walking nurse... after all, it is a swiss watch company ! 😉

Yes, most Apple users buy Apple watches. However, according to Tag, most Connected users also buy Apple iPhones. I'm a bit surprised by this given the weak integration between Tag and Apple, but then, not really... While smartwatch functions, features and ecosystem integration are important to the nerds who hang out on forums and talk about smartwatches, we are but a small minority of the overall Connected user base. After all, an informed Apple user would never buy a Tag if they only cared about "smartwatch features". I'm going to guess that most Connected users buy them because they look like a luxury watch, not an electronic gizmo. That's why I bought mine. My galaxy watch can do everything my e4 can do and much, much more, but it doesn't look as nice.

Do you also have the E4? I'm wondering whether the new flush rubber straps are compatible with the E4.
I had the E4 and still have some E4/E3 bands.... I am not sure they are compatible as there's no bar to hold the strap... (the new straps already includes a built-in metal bar.... if you add a bar to the watch it could work as the band width is exactly the same...
