I thought arc was showing the heart rate zone and tick was current heart rate within the zone.
That’s what I thought until I had a situation with no arc, but did have a tick (last image).

Hello, I just got my connected E5. I am noticing that after charging the watch fully and taking it off the charger it stops from 100% to 99% almost instantly. Has anyone else come across this issue?

Thanks!

Same, just consider it a rounding error (99.9%). Non-issue

Thanks! Just wanted to double check and make sure my battery was not bad or something.

Oh my God i ve just learned the processor which E5 has, released in 2022 !
For days I’ve been trying to convince myself to buy this product, coming up with all kinds of ‘good’ reasons, but no matter how I look at it, it just doesn’t hold up. 🙁

I wouldn't buy it yet... I'm happy with my E4 with Apple iPhone at the moment, and if I want to upgrade, I'll wait for at least a year until they get the glitches sorted.
TBH I can't say that the E5 is an improvement on the E4 at all. I can't think of one feature that makes me want one.

There are good reasons not to buy E5 now, but "oh my god processor is from 2022" is not one of them. Few years old processors are still very good for watches, there hasn't been a revolution in processing power. My E4 is even older but is working and looking great. I'm starting to like E5 even with its release bugs and limitations with Android. If you need all possible sensors, don't get Connected, get Samsung or Apple, they are cheaper, more powerful, better health and fitness tracking. Connected is not going to have latest and greatest technology, instead you're getting better looking watch and faces.

I have the E4 and believe the E5 looks much better with the way the strap connects. However, the glitches and the fact I can’t have watchmaker for a start makes it a big no. Not sure what the E5 has over the E4 on software. As for battery the E4 also lasts two days if you do the adjustments that I’ve seen you have to do on the E5 to drag out the battery.

For me the E6 down the line is the one to watch out for where TH have been able to grow into their software development.

There isn't a newer processor for wearables on the market anyway. This is the latest Snapdragon Wear chip available. Only in-house solutions, like the Apple Watch chips are newer, but they don't sell their chips to others.

So, despite my scepticism about the E5 (previously expressed in depth in this forum) as I was in Reading on Wednesday and had some time to kill I stopped off at the Tag store to take a look at an E5.

I will admit - despite the physical changes being minimal from the E4, they were impressive enough that even if functionality was just equivalent I would have bought it. It is a much better product in that sense. However, the SW felt rough - the notification typeface and everything about it felt poor. It was more responsive, but that's more to do with the CPU than the SW - as it's AOSP then WearOS would feel pretty much the same performance. As I said in the store - given that Tag had got this far, it would have cost very little for them to release and Android version alongside the Apple version. The enormous bulk of the SW work would be common to the two - WearOS is actually just a few services running over the top of AOSP, primarily Play.

Cynically, I'm left feeling that they chose not to do this purely because they would be catching grief from the Apple base that Android users would be better featured in this scenario.

I left feeling very let down by Tag after buying all four generations up till now. If an E6 showed up tomorrow with WearOS I very much doubt I would buy it at this point as I don't trust Tag anymore

Solution to the HR issue

Serious issues with the E5’s heart rate readings have been reported here and on Reddit. My own HR readings have been grossly incorrect, off by 60bpm or more, although they were always accurate when I’m completely still. This has been frustrating to say the least.

I finally found a solution that I’m happy with. It simply involves placing the watch high enough on your wrist and tight enough to produce an accurate reading. It took me a few days of wearing both the E5 and my Fitbit to find just the right spot. For me, it means wearing my E5 at least one full finger width away from the edge of my wrist bone and at the same time having the strap tight enough that it leaves some slight marks on my skin without being uncomfortable. I’ve attached a picture below for reference, but every arm is of course different, so you’ll need to find your own perfect spot.

This location resolves almost all my incorrect readings, including when I’m moving/walking around with a low heart rate, or when I’m driving. If I’m working out, I move the E5 up slightly more.

I found this article helpful, but there are many others on the topic: https://tech.yahoo.com/wearables/articles/wearing-smartwatch-correctly-140015117.html

Good luck getting your HR readings right. It makes wearing the E5 a joy.

Just going to add my own experience, not sure if it will be popular….

I’ve come over from a AW Hermes. I enjoyed the watch, but it was extremely boring. Lovely straps but the faces were rubbish and the watch itself no different from any other AW. The OS, obviously, very good.

Now, cards on table, all I care about from a smart watch is:

(1) Shows notifications, shows who’s calling and the ability to skip songs on music.
(2) Looks good and has decent faces.
(3) Good straps.

I’m not worried about steps, heart rate, ECG etc etc as I think they are, in the main, a gimmick.

Well, the E5 does all of this easily. Yes, there are a few frustrations with app disconnection etc but, for me, this happens quite rarely and is easily fixed. I love the watch faces. I have the steel strap, teal rubber strap and the leather strap with clasp. They are extremely good quality, the leather strap is better than anything I’ve owned before.

I’m very happy with the watch. I think it’s only going to get better.

Is anyone else having an issue where their live weather widgets on the watch face is showing up as just a dot? In my case it’s just a red dot as shown in the photo.

That means it’s sunny where you are. Be glad: mine shows a cloud, snow, and a temperature of 35 degrees.

Ahh…it’s a very underwhelming graphic then 😂

I dunno, sunny is pretty self evident IMO, and fits in with the overall design ethos and other weather icons. It’s the rain icon that I take issue with, it’s completely out of place.
