If you're seeing the sensors light then the watch in too loose. This could be a reason why some users are reporting incorrect readings.

I’ve been wearing mine very tightly for the past few days, and higher up on my arms, away from my wrist. At first, it was uncomfortable to wear it so tight, and it leaves some marks on my skin, but a few days later I got used to it, and it’s fine.

That does seem to make things a little better. It’s doesn’t solve the problem completely though. You still get times when the E5 reports extremely high readings - off by 60bpm or so. It happens when driving or walking around. I think all wearables get thrown off by movement, but the E5 seems especially sensitive. And once it starts reporting an abnormally high heart rate, it seems to stay wrong for much longer than my other devices. Hopefully there is a software adjustment that can make up for some of this.

Has anyone chosen the 40mm over the 45mm? I purchased the 45mm but after wearing it for a couple of days I have a feeling that it may be too big for my wrist size (16,5cm/6.5 inches). On the other hand, I tried the 40mm at the store and the screen size seemed to be too small for a smartwatch. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

I did. I tried the 45mm steel, 40mm steel, and 40mm titanium. I chose the 40mm steel watch over the 45mm because it felt significantly lighter than the 45mm, and I liked the form factor (I thought I’d wear the watch overnight for sleep tracking, so the weight and feel mattered, but so far I’ve continued to use my Fitbit for that). I ruled out the 40mm titanium because it did not feel much lighter than the steel version and because I did not like the look of the new balance edition (price was also a consideration).

I’ve been pleased with the 40mm version. It feels a lot like my mechanical watches, which is what I wanted. The battery is smaller, of course, and that’s an issue. But the screen is large enough for my use case. My wrist is almost the same size as yours (6.75 inches I believe). Ultimately this is going to be a personal decision 😀

it was 45mm for me all the way solely due to battery.
Also did opt for Ti as the weight did feel significant in comparison and the black finish just looks better (IMO).

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I’m looking for something exactly as you were, so maybe I’ll still try to exchange for the 40mm. Regarding the battery, is it enough for at least one full active day? Thank you once again!

Yes, no doubt. And I’ve been playing with it a lot trying to get the HR to work better etc.

Besides the battery, another issue is the lack of deployant buckle on the 40mm. Just giving you the pros and cons I’m aware of.

Hi everyone. Has anybody heard anything about when the next software update will be released? I know sleep tracking is coming, but there are issues with the reported heart rate and the sport app that could be addressed beforehand.

Hi, totally new here and to Tag Heuer. Have always wanted a Tag watch and smartwatch features so made the investment in the E5. I have the 40mm and like the look and feel, but am disappointed in the battery.

Anyway two quick topics:
1. Is there a way to set the display to stay on longer with the wrist movement activation? Seems like it’s only 5 seconds. I would prefer 10-15 or something longer.
2. What is the experience with step counting? I am getting like 30-40% fewer steps counted compared to my Fitbit. I read that Fitbit algorithms for steps are top notch so I’m inclined to think my E5 is undercounting. And I don’t want to make my watch so tight it leaves a mark on my arm.

Appreciate any insights!

I also have the 40mm and came from a Fitbit charge 6 as my smartwatch. I find the battery to be okay - lasts a day - but definitely not like a Fitbit.

There isn’t an option for the fully on screen to stay on longer. I read somewhere that that may come in a software update.

My step count is also much lower on the E5 than the Fitbit. After wearing both at the same time and paying attention, I’ve come to the conclusion that the E5 is closer to being right. Both count steps pretty well: take 100 steps, and both will add about 100 to your step count. But the Fitbit counts more other things as steps, like hand gestures and movements. I worked out this morning (upper body weight training) and did not walk much at all. My E5 says I took 1860 steps, Fitbit says 4430. The 4430 is much too high and includes a bunch of my weightlifting that the Fitbit confuses with steps.

Wi-Fi

Can’t get this off my screen. I have reset the watch to factory settings. Everything seemed ok but I could get the updates because it said I wasn’t connected to wifi. Tried to connect but this is where we are at now. It’s been like this for about 20 mins. Occasionally the clock face will appear but when I press any button it returns to this.

I hope soon , my only issue is the heart rate tracking and they could at least address that before the big update.

Another data point. This morning I got up and did a 2.4 mile treadmill run. E5 reports 4747 steps and Fitbit says 4689. If all you do is take steps, the step counts are very close.

NB training plan - I got the watch (E5, 45mm steel) 2 weeks ago and started to follow the NB training plan - 2x (out of total 9) trainings - the watch did not record my running session - anyone else got this issue ?

Tag Connect app update 1.0.3 now available, but no new OS update.
I can say, steps do not sync as timely as they did in previous version. It now takes up to an hour for steps to sync with connect app and apple health. I now regret updating. Seems Tag takes one step forward and 2 steps back.

Workout screen
2 questions:

(1) what does the colored arc represent, blue, green, yellow? But sometimes there’s no arc.

(2) what does this tick moving tick mark mean?

I guess I don’t understand why we keep having to append onto this already bloated thread with unrelated new items. Why can’t we have specific new topics?

To keep the forum clear and well-organized, please refrain from opening new threads on topics already covered in previously existing threads.

Having multiple threads in few days discussing initial experiences and questions after the E5 launch would be unhelpful and difficult to follow chronologically.

We already have two threads dedicated to E5: this main one, which is sticked (and therefore in a prominent and easy-to-find location), and another for known issues and suggested updates.

Thanks

I thought arc was showing the heart rate zone and tick was current heart rate within the zone.
