Would this bother you? Service Centre experience.

So I got my beloved Seamaster Diver 300M water pressure tested under warranty at the Swatch Group Service Centre. They did a great, job and even replaced gaskets for me. Amazing customer service too. However, for some reason they decided to “clean the dial”. There was an unrelated speck on the underside of the crystal, which they did thankfully remove. But this is the dial now:
(Scratches on the OMEGA logo and a fibre that got lodged in the 6 index)

I’ll be going back to get the fibre removed, but what should I do about the scratches? Would you live with them? Should I ask for a dial replacement?

Yes, that would bother me. The fiber needs to be removed (it can cause problems), and I'd see what they suggest with the dial. I suspect they'll just replace it without you asking, unless that is just some material they can clean off easily enough.

That's why I don't allow anyone to tinker with my watches for usually minor issues. Anytime you open a watch you run the risk of stuff like this happening. Yes, it would bother me. They did not do a 'great' job on your watch.

Not great, but fortunately it's a mass-produced model and these issues can be easily addressed. As noted above, there's always a chance for damage when a watch is tampered with. No need to complain or ask for compensation, IMO. Just request that they fix it, should be routine.

Oh dear, yes, that would also bother me. Not ok.
I'd complain. There was a thread recently where some damage was done to a family heirloom watch and they offered to replace a bezel (in your case the dial) AND make the service free of charge.

If they took a perfect dial and made it into that, that's simply ridiculous.

Thanks all for the input. I’ll go back and see if I can get it replaced. I’m hoping there’s a chance it’s some residue and it can be wiped off but we’ll see.

Is the first pic before or after the dial clean? I can see the fibre but not the scratch
After. It’s only noticeable in certain angles given the ceramic properties of the dial. But it’s definitely there.

I can’t see anything on the logo but a hair on the dial is a big red flag. Send it back.

You can see a cluster of scratches between the O and M.

Will be sending it back - but was hoping to see from fellow members here if I have a case for a dial replacement.

Yes I see your point. I think it unlikely that is actually scratching. It’s very hard to scratch ceramic as it is, well, very hard, but that along with the hair suggests a less than perfect intervention. Send it back. I doubt you’ll get a new dial but ask for it to be rectified.

These dials are ceramic. I have no idea if they have a coat of lacquer or varnish (like a painted dial would) over the ceramic, and I don't know why they would...

Point being- it's a ceramic dial, how did it get scratched in the first place? Seems more likely that this is a careless cleaning job and there's some residue to be wiped off.

That really changes nothing though, the issue needs to be fixed however it can be fixed.

Edit: padders beat me to it by a minute. Great minds and all that

I realize the dial is ceramic and that was my line of thinking too. I’m hoping it’s just some residue but we shall see.

I’ll be taking it back and I’ll keep everyone here posted.

Definitely unacceptable and sloppy service. I'd want a dial replaced. Glad you are under warranty.

I think the approach I’ll take is, if it’s residue, I’ll request they gently wipe it off to standard condition.

If they’re actually scratches, I’ll demand a dial replacement. Is that a reasonable approach?

Indeed.

If they are actually scratches, yes of course.

I may well be incorrect, yet I’m going to assume you’re in YVR. I’m curious: was this at either the Hotel Vancouver OB or the Service Centre at T&G? (If you’re not in YVR, nothing to see here!)

UPDATE POST:

I just got my watch back from the service centre. Turnaround was quick—roughly two weeks. They removed the fibre and addressed the dial scratch “best as possible”.

I’m not over the moon with some of the residue/scratch remaining, but overall I’m satisfied with the result. It’s still there but seems a lot less noticeable.

A (relatively) good outcome here! Thanks all for following along.
