On a separate note: Mika Hakkinen was in my country last week and I managed to meet him. I got him to sign the Tag Heuer sponsored Porsche he drove in two races in 1993… does anyone have an overview of the watches he wore during his days as a McLaren driver?

That's awesome! Love that you're wearing a Link!

As for Mika's watches, he wore 6000s the most. Most notably he wore the 6000 Senna from 1995 until around '97/'98.

Later, from around '99, he often wore a Gold 6000 with a grey dial.

I've also spotted him wearing a Gold Carrera and the S/EL.

Wow great feedback @Mspeedster … you keep impressing me. As for my watch, it is a formula one Senna edition (not a link 😉). As for Mika: wasn’t he wearing the same S/El watch as Senna early in 93 and 94? I have the impression that this was the watch of choice of many f1 drivers in the early 90’s…?

My bad, I can see your watch is a Senna F1 edition now. I just saw the bracelet before and thought Link.

That's Gerhard Berger in that photo. I don't know what watch Mika wore in '93 or '94, I've never been able to spot one during those years on his wrist. He actually didn't seem to wear a watch when racing. Most pictures I've seen, like this one, he's without a watch.

As an aside, Michael Andretti did wear a 6000 in 1993, as did Senna the entire season. Mika wasn't as famous in his early years, so there aren't as many photos of him compared to Senna. But even later in his career with West Mercedes McLaren, I noticed that he wore his TAGs primarily when not racing. Rarely have I seen him with a watch on when wearing his racing suit.

I think he is now busy selling everything he has to buy this Mc Laren..
Or is he still lying on one ear and dreaming about this? 😉

If I had 12 million I wouldn't buy it, but I would have the best TAG Heuer museum in the world. It would take days to look around.

I would even have a room for the Connected which Albert would be employed to caretake cos I don't know nothing about that.

I would have it designed by the guy that did the McLaren factory... though actually, maybe I will need a bit more money. 😄

Pre sale estimate 12-15 million USD 😲
There was a time this would have ended up in Bernie's private collection I guess.
He sold all his though I think.
I'd be happy if this car was bought by the Senna Foundation. Rather than Bernie or another uber rich private collector.

It would be fitting 👍
Bernie sold all his to Mark Mateschitz the Red Bull heir for an estimated 1/2 billion fairly recently. I would think he's out of the market now.

But I believe the Senna Foundation's priority is to continue supporting the education of underprivileged Brazilian children, rather than spending that money on a car. Besides, the Foundation must already have a McLaren Formula 1 car, probably a gift from McLaren to Ayrton…

Perhaps Lewis Hamilton will buy it? 😉
Lewis is a huge Ayrton fan, and he can afford to buy this legendary McLaren with which Ayrton finally won his first Brazilian GP
