Hi again all
@chawn Any news from your contact on this?
@djoconnor Yes, don't have it over to anyone just yet, we may well be getting together. I still have my "live dead watch", untouched or seen by Tag and will be hoping, like you, to get my money back.
I'm just not at all savvy on legal matters and hoping we can help each other out.🤞
Thanks all 👍
Strength in numbers 💪. It's clearly a design issue. I only wear mine at weekends and holiday. I have other watched I wear for work.

I am getting advice from a Consumer Protection law firm to discuss how valid of a complaint we have and the options and costs. I’ll come back and post my findings.

Did you have anything back from this firm?

I think pursuing the CRA 2015 is pretty much the only way. Stating that you expect an item of this value to last more than 30 months.

I fear it would be a long drawn out battle. As mentioned previously they will look for any excuse to blame you for the damage.

I have gadget insurance that covers this watch but will obviously cost me an excess. I'll be honest. I don't really want this replaced if this is an ongoing issue with these watches.

I'd be more hopeful of them sending me the money for it.

I highly doubt the manufacturer would refund us on our purchases. At best a free repair I'd think.

Thread's gone a bit cold in here - I'm still hoping to get more than a free repair as I just think it'll happen again.
This is a clear design issue and surely we should be entitled to a refund if the correct process can be established 🤞

Reasonable Time: This is the key point. How long is reasonable depends on the type of product, its price, and how it was advertised. For example, a £1,000 TV is expected to last longer than a 10p whistle.

Six-Year Limit: While goods must last a reasonable time, the statute of limitations in England allows claims for faulty goods up to six years after purchase (five in Scotland). This doesn't mean goods are expected to last six years, but it's the maximum time you have to make a claim.

There's definitely legislation in the UK for this type of situation.
What worries me is they will repair or replace. Not refund.

I'm going to approach the retailer I bought this from at the weekend and test the water.

Just happened to me I barely ever wear this watch to keep it new and the bezel fell off haven't heard much lately. Just happened had the watch for under 4 months. Always cared for never hit or wet just falls rite off. Pretty wild for a watch this price!!!! Zero DAMAGE Just falls rite off. My guess is because of the fact its cheaply glued and the charger is stronger then the glue even short term!!!! Super pissed!!

So I have an update.

I wasn't going to wait any longer and took my watch back to the Tag Heuer retailer I purchased it from.
Being 6 months out of warranty I was expecting a fight. It didn't happen.
The girl took the watch from me and said not to worry. This was a known issue with these watches which they are working to resolve.
She asked if I had been somewhere warm on holiday. According to her it's extreme heat and temperature change that causes the screen to expand or contract. Breaking the seal.
Not very reassuring for the watch itself but I have been reassured that I will have my watch head replaced free of charge.
My obvious concern is what if this happens again. Which it likely will. Seems I've been lucky for mine to last so long (30 months). I suppose if they are happy to continuously replace this if it happens again to mine then I can't really complain.

I am still waiting on a reply from Tag as the watch has been sent to them.

I will report back if this promise materializes.

Something I did discover during this process is that this is the only Tag watch made in China. Not Switzerland.
Speaks for itself really. 🥴

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was told at the Tag shop - but I then had an argument with Tag directly once they got hold of it. If you push back on them I expect that you'll be good, but their first response will be to look for ANY piece of cosmetic damage to try and argue that you've knocked it which is why it came off.

Yeh I'm waiting for that tbh. I have dozens of pictures of the watch taken the day I handed it over so they don't have that one to fall back on.
At the end of the day I have gadget insurance that covers this watch but why should I pay an excess to have this fault fixed??

Both the E3 & E4 were made in China, unlike the E1 and E2.

Just a note: the E5 is around the corner (October IIRC), which no longer uses Google WearOS.

Hi there. Same dam thing happened to me. So I have no clue what kind of consumer protection rights I have here in Canada. Especially since I bought the E4 in Dubai 3 yrs ago…
From the comments above, it seems the warranty period is only 2yrs? Could someone confirm pls

The standard warranty is 2 years. You're in Canada; your purchased in Dubai; I doubt your rights are much different to what they would be in the UK - i.e. you're reliant on Dubai consumer protection. A really cursory read of Dubai laws seems to indicate that they have some form of reasonable expectations akin to UK consumer law, but I'd really want a local to chime in on that. If they do then you would be covered, but I suspect you will have a fight and a half to get anywhere with this

Thanks. I think TAG started selling the E4 in March 2022. In my case for it to litterally remain functional with normal use for only 1 yr after the warranty period expires is ridiculous. Would love to know if there is anyone else in Canada experiencing the same defect.

I'm not sure if Canada has regs that are similar to the UK for consumer rights, or if it's closer to the USA. Regardless, I think what you need isn't a Canadian case - you need Dubai case. It would be pretty much unenforceable for Canadian law to apply to a product purchased outside of Canada

Here's an update on my watch.

Tag eventually came back and wanted £650 to replace the watch which was 6 months out of warranty.

I took to my soap box and started quoting UK Consumer rights act 2015. This act really is designed for high price electronic items. My argument was this was an electronic item. A bit of a grey area.
The girls in the Tag shop I bought it from was on my side and was arguing the case out with them but she said they were very unlikely to budge. Despite all the evidence I presented that this was clearly a design issue.
After a lot of back and forth they finally came back with another offer.
They would replace the watch for what they normally charge for a battery replacement. £240.
At first I thought I was going to be stubborn and dig my heels in but eventually I've decided that I cannot be bothered with the hassle.

I have been assured that I will have the watch replaced covered by another 2 year warranty as all Tag repairs are covered for.
Not what I wanted but a lot better than £650.

I'm surprised that they didn't replace for free. Do you use "reasonable expectations" at any point?

Hi,
My E4 45 Golf Watch is currently with the Tag Manchester Repair Centre. The fault with mine is that the small circular cover on the back of the watch came off exposing the electronics. Unfortunately, I didn’t notice and showered with my watch on (as usual). Obviously, the watch died. This is clearly a design fault on a watch guaranteed waterproof to 5ATM (from memory) and has a swimming activity setting. It’s approx 9 months out of the standard 2 year warranty. TAG have sent me an invoice for nearly £800 to replace the watch head. I’ve bounced back claiming that I registered it for their extended warranty & I’m waiting for their reply.
