On that first 1680, you would really consider it?
Yes I was…. Knowing the crown guard is quite slim

prototype? eagle-beek with plastic surgery? 😀
Was it that bad ? I mean the overall condition ?

Thanks to à forums member, it seems that I’ve found one much better 😀

The 580 endlinks are aftermarket (aka fake), you can tell from the graphics / lettering of the numbers.

It's not a big issue, you can buy an original couple for around 500 euro, but I would do my due diligence on every other part of the watch.
So between this 2, assuming the second is right, I struggle finding a différence. Is it also the shape of the “ear” or only the number lettering ?

Experts train their eyes to notice small differences that the forgers miss. With practice, it becomes second nature. But don’t expect people to post every nuance publicly.

Hi all,
Finally pulled the trigger on this one, which seems to me to be a fair exemple all original from 1977.
Only the bracelet is later, from 1982.
It was worn by a merchant vessel capitain during years before being bought by a watch collector.

Thanks you all for you help.

Now the question is, should I polish it or not ? I will wait and see, but lugs are thick, so I think it may be nice to take it back to an original finish !

You must be very comfortable with this option. You can't undo it. Personally, I'm not. A vintage watch wears its history, especially on its case. I like these kind of marks, I expect them. That's a main reason for diving into vintage watches...

Btw, ::psy::::psy:: for this shot!

Could you tell more about the price range? Have an active friend here ready to pull the trigger on this ref, he could be interested also...😁

Thanks ! To me it is all about dial, i guess a polish on the case may be worth it… will take time to consider it !

The good selection of a vintage watch is taken to absurdity by polishing.

I understand this one.
in daylight I’m ok with the case.
But with artificial light, the case has so many dents !
While I don’t like overpolished case and wanted a thick one, I guess I’ll take time to wear it like that and then see.
After à long hunt, firsts days are usually the ones where the dents are the more visible ! 😀

As I already told you, polishing would not be an option for me, the watch has its history and presents well despite its "living" case. I would really be afraid that it would lose its charm...

All the dents and scratches are parts of the silent and hidden history of this watch.

Antique dealers here in the south of France use old bunches of different and many keys to 'pimp' picture frames in a vintage style - they throw them repeatedly against frames or pieces of furniture.

I wouldn't mind getting it back closer to the original finish by giving it a light polish.

If this watch was unpolished that would be different, but it isn't. So getting it done by someone who is very good at restoring the brush, would be a good option.

One crownguard looks fatter than the other. I think this was polished?
