This makes me think they should do a solid gold Seiko 5KX. Really confuse the notion of value in the watch game.

Just saw this on my Facebook feed. AUD$4550?! Ouch. Dial looks a bit too similar to the Omega SMP 75th Anniversary as well. One wonders if Seiko are trying to rip off Omega...

I think everyone's just jumping on the hombre dial bandwagon. I like the design, but I agree the price is bananas. That's a pretty big price tag for a 8L35 movement.

Sorry I keep posting Seiko 5KX news, but I got another one, plus the 5126-8090 that it's based on:

As per usual, the OG watch is more charming. But, they're both fun. Now to begin what I presume will be a fruitless search for an OEM seiko 5 razor bracelet from 1968....

It's a shame that they don't put their 8L35 movement in their King Seiko lineup.

I really like the look and the nod to the past, but knowing that there is a much more accurate movement they could have used bums me out.

Pardon the horrible lighting, no sun to be found as the T-Storms are raging...raining hammers and nails!

Which color is the dial? I keep eyeing yellow one. Just wish they had am hour sundials instead of the 24-hour.

It’s a panda, the white grabbed some of the amber from my home office lighting. We should have some sun tomorrow, and I’m hoping for a round of golf…will snag a better picture on the course and post

Some thoughts on the SRPK17:

Pro:
- It's a very faithful reproduction. Many of the other recent reissues are fun, but this one feels properly vintage because they didn't just build a design on top of the 5KX case/bezel. The case is slimmer, and they even brought back the OG Seiko 5 logo!
- it has a friction bezel (which I prefer for most everyday things where timekeeping isn't mission-critical)
- While it's nothing fancy, the bracelet is a nice upgrade from the usual 5KX bracelet
- It has a closed case back. I have no idea why Seiko keeps adding display case backs to see a 4R36 movement

Con:
- It's still a 4R36.
- the recessed crown is tiny and hard to manipulate. But, I guess fixing that wouldn't have made sense for a reissue.

Agree with your pro's above, it has the vintage Seiko 'look' in spades.
My one is bang on accurate after 3 days it's only lost 1 second, I'm frankly amazed by that so movement wise it's good.
I was worried about the dinky crown but I didn't have any issues setting the time it day / date, maybe I have small fingers...
My only niggle is that the bracelet is a bit of a hair puller, I've seen a YouTube where a guy sticks a strap code super J on it and it looks great so I might try that.
Overall, super happy.😀

I'll have to take a look. I usually don't care for these sort of 'closed' lugs, but I guess one of the advantages is it might look good on a variety of straight end bracelets.

But, so far I like the vintage vibe of the bracelet it comes on.

Curious, @Dsloan , what are the issues with the 4R36 movement? Just based on what I've read, the overall specs on it seems like it's not the most accurate (I think +45 seconds/day rated officially?) but I've also seen multiple anecdotes/reviews saying that real world performance for random samples is much better.

On a tangential note, for less expensive movements like this, do people bother taking them in to get regulated outside of normal service intervals? If a watchmaker will take a little bit of money just to do a regulation even when the watch is pretty new, that might be worthwhile.
