Fratello podcast mentioned a big player releasing a thinner watch
When was that? I listen to all of the Fratello podcasts and I did not hear that.

I believe it was this article, not podcast.

“We also know of another hardcore dive watch coming out with a slimmed-down case soon (sorry; it’s still under embargo!).”

Anyone else have any wishes for the PO
Yes, I do.
I posted this a couple of years ago:

A new PO with fresh Ultra Deep design and technology (Omega Steele), so slimmer than the current PO.
I did a side view also, but I can't find it anywhere, sorry.

considering that the 300m is probably Omega's top selling model, it may be looking to reinvigorate the PO. Therefore we are likely to see a more significant update to justify the current 25% more in price. I suspect that a relaunch will probably raise the PO price to even more of a gap with the 300m

Great find! but no, it wasn't this one. This one was "a prototype" I made upon the first UD concept. I was referring to a "New PO" that I made based on the commercial version of UD; it was a picture of the watch sitting on a desk near to a leather wallet or something similar, if I remember correctly.

Great! Yes, it is. Thank you.
Where it was? 😅

40-41 mm. Thinner. Better proportions than current 39.5 mm which I have and really like. Please keep the date function.

Maybe going against the grain here, but I think a 42mm, or even 43mm diameter might be acceptable depending on the design. The Speedmaster and original 166.024 are 42mm diameter watches, after all. Those timepieces have short lug-to-lug lengths so they don't overhang the wrist despite their larger footprints.

What's absolutely critical is the thickness and proportions of the watch. Making watches thinner almost always improves wearability, and if a significant amount of the height is delegated to the crystal and caseback, that will help with keeping the watch from wearing like a hockey puck.

I do love seeing people use these features we added for their intended purpose 👍

There have been increasing rumours about a thinner PO, I've been saying to anyone that will listen that the best PO in the lineup by far at the moment is the 39.5mm version with Cal 8800 as it is a good diameter for most people and only 14.2mm, and despite it being marketed in many places as the ladies' version it's very much the ideal unisex size at the moment. They're definitely aware of that being a problem with the model line.

I loved the previous version of the Planet Ocean (photo below) but I was a university student and couldn't afford it. I really dislike the current generation. Mostly because 43.5mm x 16mm is a very uncomfortable wearing experience. If Omega were to release an updated version of a PO that can come in at 42mm x 11-13mm thick with a 48mm lug to lug distance, they'd have a massive win on their hands and it would be a serious challenger to the Submariner or Sea Dweller. In recent years, I've prepared myself to be dissapointed by new Omega releases, especially in the PO line which used to be my favourite line, but I'm praying that maybe, just maybe they'll get this one right. Fingers crossed!

The 39.5mm PO should be right in my wheelhouse because I consider the Tudor Black Bay 58 (39mm) and Rolex Submariner 14060 (40mm) just about ideal in size for a dive watch for me. I've tried on 39.5 PO but I find it just too thick for the diameter. It looks weird. I guess if I wore it every day it might grow on me but I'm not going to risk $7,000+ on the experiment.

If they dropped the size down to around 12.8mm, which is what my 2220.80 Seamaster was, it would wear much better.

I also think the 600m water resistance is totally unnecessary. To the extent they are making the watch thick to meet that specification I think they are making a mistake. No watch for normal people needs to be more water resistant than 300m, and even that depth rating is excessive.

You’re not wrong, it’s still thick, but a significant improvement over the other Planet Oceans at present, especially the GMT variants which are a brick.

It was an interesting idea from the start, making a diver out of the Speedmaster Pro asymmetrical case design, which is where the PO came from. Trying to differentiate it with double the depth rating and then adding a display back and thicker movement hasn’t helped it though.

If they keep the 600M rating they really need to either make an ultra thin movement for it, make it a solid back frontloader, or both to get it back to a premium product in the thickness range you mention.

This was leaked on Reddit, seems to be the new generation of the Planet Ocean.

I'm hoping these are AI mockups, they look a bit underwhelming. A planet ocean shouldn't have polished centre links imo.

It seems like they're all moves to emulate Rolex: Oysterflex-style rubber with the endlinks, polished center links, no HEV, boring case back (not even a proper engraving, just a superficial etching). All moves that take away from the unique aspect of a Planet Ocean.

Very underwhelming to say the least.
