Ah thanks for that!

Any thoughts on whether it is a fake?
I would say, based on the extra links shown in one of the pics, that it's probably genuine.

Reviving this thread... @Aquagraph what do you think of this that I picked up? It's a S95.206M quartz, but been a little worried about the step dial. Thanks!

The early quartz S/ELs (i.e. late 80s, early 90s) did not have the stepped the dial. The stepped dial on the quartz models was introduced mid-90s.

The watch in question does look authentic. But I would expect the newer style part number, WG1120, on case-back, rather than the old part number S95.206M. However, I suppose they could've used an older case-back cover with a newer style stepped dial during some crossover period.

Thank you very much @Aquagraph and @Mspeedster! It has the old part number on the case back, so true it may have been from the transitional period.

I also thought maybe it was a dial replacement in service from Tag after the step dails came out?

Thanks for your insights, you both know your stuff.

Yup, that's another possibility. I've heard of cases where dials have been updated during service. But I think it's the exception rather than the norm, unless it was requested.

This is exactly what happened to me. I sent my CG1110 back for service and it came back with the newer dial with the silver rings around the subdials. This was done because they quoted to 'relume' the dial, which I now realise probably means 'put a new dial in'. When I complained they told me they did not have spares of the original dial which is why they changed it to the later one. So I opted to have the old dial put back because I don't like the replacement dial.

So yes, this is quite possible... and judging by the state of the hands vs the dial, quite likely.

Stepped dials in the 1991 catalogue, albeit for Chronometers.

Very interesting. At least it looks authentic, I'm ok with the mystery. Thanks very much!

Right. The stepped dial was first introduced on the S/EL Automatics. The Quartz models didn’t get that dial type until a few years later.

This is how I could tell that Senna wore an Automatic Chronometer S89.206 during several races in the 1992 season, rather than the Quartz model. The 3 lines of text on the Chronometer is the other give away, but the text is not easy to spot on Senna's wrist on most photos.

This is one of the few shots where the 3 lines of text are visible in addition to the stepped dial.

Hi! Found this useful thread - any thoughts on whether this is a legit S95.206K or fake? Bezel not as sharp as some of the real examples - would appreciate an expert opinion!

It's an s95.213M
Also, since we're revisiting this thread, I've always wondered what the "K" suffix stands for. Such as my S95.806K.
With the old 6 digit part numbers, the "M" suffix was used for Metal Bracelet and "C" for Cuir (Leather) straps. My S95.806K came with the brown leather strap (purchased new from an AD). Technically, it should end with "C" according to the catalogues. No clue why mine is a "K".

Anyone know what the "K" suffix stands for?

My Pilot also has the K suffix... does that help?

It came on a bracelet, I bought the strap from TH.

I think the K has a different meaning, not related to bracelet or strap type. It might just designate an update to the model. Do you know the approx. year your Pilot was produced?

The K could also have a different meaning for the Pilot series compared to S/EL. Those old part numbers were not consistent in their meanings across different product lines.

Well no, but clearly between 1986 and 1991 I guess.... and yeah, I imagine you're right, the K probably means something different every time they use it.

This is what I thought for all of the numbers and letters. There's -0 -1 but also other letters like G B N D etc..

So the metal bracelet for these watches were 304/305s and the leather straps were 181/186s
