I mean surely you buy a watch because you love it, not because it's celebrating some event. I couldn't care less if the forthcoming panda is a 60th anniversary watch and individually numbered or not quite frankly. In fact I'd rather it wasn't as these things tend to add a premium.

I agree. But I guess if you were told that and then it turned out to be b/s you'd be pretty annoyed, right?

I guess. But I wouldn't believe what a watch boutique employee told me in the first place.

Yep 600 in total.
All individually numbered.

Good to hear that they will be individually numbered. I prefer that over the "One of XXXX" method.

Seems a case of mis-selling to me. Quite a difference between an item being a limited edition anniversary watch and being a regular model.

Well, the 2021 WOTY was a Carrera Reverse Panda (albeit single register). Also, in @kappa_md's native language Dato means the leader, so sort of a King?
Ok, but what I wanted to ask is if there will be a three-register reverse panda 😉

Well, if he's that annoyed and it means that much to him, he could certainly ask for his money back on that basis.

Haven't seen any. But I'm led to believe it'll be a glassbox similar to this with a leather rally strap and pin buckle.

A question to the group that have the 160th King, does this panda version excite you or have you on the fence? Also at what seems to calculate out to $7500 usd for this watch (based upon euro and aud #'s above), and coming from the boutique with no discount - all said it will be an $8000 usd purchase for me. I am questioning myself on how badly I want this. I will need this to be a real knockout to stretch this purchase.

Personally I couldn't say no.
Especially because I've been waiting on this for at least 3 years.
I don't think you will be disappointed in it.
It's very true to the 2447sn in every way.

Frankly, I couldn't decide between the Silver or Montreal. I love pandas but the Montreal was a little too colorful for my taste. The Silver was ok, but I knew my preference would be a panda. Hence, I went for the Dato, a reverse panda but a single register. After getting the Carrera Dato, I was convinced my next Heuer Carrera would be vintage, but I haven't found the right one.

Now I find myself on the fence a bit with this one. It's the near perfect panda, but I'm quite content with my Dato and not sure if I want another Glassbox. These things aren't cheap! Moreover, the ultimate for me would be a dual register Ford v Ferrari 7753SN re-issue over 2447SN. Also for the money, there are other watches from other brands that I have under consideration.

Having said that, I have a feeling once my TH Boutique comes a calling it will be hard to resist... 😗

Well I think you probably know my answer. When I bought the 160th, it was only ever staying as long as a panda or reverse panda didn't exist. As soon as I heard about this, the 160th was put immediately up for sale. But I do hear you on the price, which, despite this arguably being my grail watch, has certainly got me thinking. But hopefully at 600 pieces it should have better value retention than most TAGs.

Come on Charlie, you've already sold your silver one, what are you gonna buy instead, another Grand Seiko?

The 160 is a sunburst silver and quite elegant, really captures the wonderful sporty / elegant balance of the original. The 2447SN (and thus the new reissue) has more of an eggshell white-silver dial, and is sportier in details. I think given the difference there will be room for both in my collection

Oh, I'm definitely getting one (assuming I can). Just that the price is making me feel a bit uncomfortable.

I don't know the USD pricing, but I think all the H02's are over priced as it is. However, a vintage 2447SN will typically go for well over $10k, so in that respect the re-edition's price isn't that bad. Perhaps quite worth it for anyone coveting a 60s style Heuer Carrera Panda.

On the other hand, TAG Heuer's are not known to hold their value, so the long term value will probably go down. But then I'm not one who really cares about resale value, if I did, I wouldn't buy TAGs at all.
