Zenith G381 - The Third Time's the Charm

I didn't land a G381 during the monsoon season finishing third to Marc back in January, strike one. I tried again a few months ago and went after the Bologna model but the package never seemed to get further than the Italian regional post office, strike two. I tried a third time with another Italian model that recently was posted and within four days of paying it arrived, base hit.

I knew going in the inner bezel had a smudge on it at the 90 mark, the bezel wasn't aligned properly, and the serial number had been polished off the caseback. Once I received the watch I was surprised to find a serial number between the 6:00 lugs. I sent Lou some pictures and he thought the same thing I did that the caseback probably had an inscription and had been polished off.

Here's a few pictures before it's off to be serviced. Thanks Marc and Lou for your help along the way!

Congrats. The G 381 is the stateliest of the gold Primeros, and this example has an exemplary dial and handset. The movement looks like a clean early example as well. Bravo.

Beautiful... great score!
Interesting about the number between the lugs, like a G382. Is it an xxxDxxx type case number?

The seller didn't know anything about the serial number so it remains a mystery.

"D" should mean the period of production. More or less half '69.

It is a "D" that you see hand engraved between the lugs.
