most everything including the dial looks alright to me, but the lugs looks to have been polished quite a bit.

Agreed. Looks correct but definitely seen some polishing. Here’s one I used to have for comparison:

Any idea whether the caduceus engraving was factory-made by Zenith or if it was done by the owner?

Polishing aside, the watch is good. One of the owners probably commissioned the engraving which to me is a plus to the overall watch.

I believe they were factory since I have seen them before on this model. Though whether they were part of a large special order through a jeweler or Zenith factory, I'm not certain.

Not really related to the watch...but there is quite a bit of debate as to whether the Caduceus symbol (double snake) represents medicine.

Traditionalists believe that the true symbol of medicine is the Rod of Asclepius, a single snake wrapped around a rod, representing Aesculapius, the Greek god of healing.

The double snake symbol is more modern and was adopted by the American Medical Association as a logo. It represents the gods Hermes or Mercury and is said to be associated with thieves, merchants and messengers!

Good article here, if anyone is interested!

Cool watch though, particularly if you are in medicine.

The Caduceus is a symbol of commerce appropriated by physicians. How deeply ironic.
