Greetings to the new member.

I have a question for everyone, what do you think is the reason for people not saying "hello", "thank you"?
I think it primarily comes down to everyone's motivation when they join an Internet forum.

Some want to share a common interest in watches (be they modern, vintage, Omega, etc...) and these type stay, contribute and bring their own personality and style to the forum.

Some seek affirmation and approval of strangers for their discretionary spending ("which watch looks better on my wrist...")

Some want to show off their hobby with people who actually realize and appreciate what they have.

Some like to share their knowledge and experience with others.

Some are just looking to make money by selling things. In the case of someone who comes across a watch with the famous Omega on the dial, they do an Internet search and this forum quickly pops up so they sign up with the sole intention of finding an interested person to buy their merchandise without having to pay Ebay commissions. Manners and propriety mean nothing to these people as it has nothing to do with their endeavor.

Exactly. I'd add that in my opinion the behavior stems in large part from the psychology of communicating via text through a screen versus face to face. It's harder to be rude to a person face to face and easier to be very informal. This presupposes you were taught manners at all as was alluded to above.

For me, my wife found this form and researched two watches for me. I'm just getting into collecting so I'm here to learn.

The further away from face-to-face and real-time dialogue you get, the harder it is to communicate.

I actually want to answer, but I don't have sufficient privileges to answer that question.

I don't get the notion that because there's a screen people "forget" there are human beings out there, and that they deserve consideration. Some of us are just not made that way.... I can't help think it's a matter of values not being properly passed down--but if that's so, it may mean they weren't necessarily there to begin with.

I'm not sure it's "forgetting", more just "not bothering because no ones going to tell me off because I'm hiding behind a keyboard...".

Or as I like to call it "being rude"... 😉

No matter, we're talking people with a form of emotional disability-- Vulcains or Dr. Spocks, whatever. What else would they do if given sufficient cover? They're missing something essential. The sheer number of them is scary, but then again history is not a rose garden.

Agree with you... But humans are often utter douche bags... That was my feeling coming out of Dachau... I lost a good chunk of faith in humanity there...

2013 - apologies for the segue... rather more extreme than some guy/gal behaving rudely on the Internet...

The OP has sold his watch (I guess that was what the conversation he was engaged in when I looked at his profile was about), and won't come back - let's just leave this thread to die peacefully.
