Is it solid 18ct? Based on current prices £500 buys you around 7-8 grams of 18ct. A watch will weigh likely weigh more than that.

Yes it's solid the back case weighs in at 4g. So not too heavy.

Thought it was good. Will be sent to a watch repair centre. Get it running again. And wear it.

If you are a gold buyer and took this in for £500 from some poor sap then I think you are quids in. Assuming you checked it actually is 18K. If you are private citizen without the equipment and wherewithal to check then I worry for you. As above, post some pics of the back and ideally the inner caseback. Since you know the year, you must have already removed that. It might still be a win since I suspect there is at least 10-15g of gold there.

Note the bracelet fitted isn't original, at some point that was on an expander like a Speidel hence the damage to the lugs. One thing that worries me is that people with solid 18K watch heads don't often put them on nasty plated bracelets...

Yes, a redial with the index batons seemingly glued back on, not rivetted.

Before having it serviced, get it opened up, take pictures movement and inside caseback. And look if you can find any gold hallmarks. It may not be worth fixing.

There is 18k 750 mark on the back. Loaded pictures. But they did not go onto the th l thread. Will list again soon.

There's hallmarks on the case. On the back. Faded but still there. 18k and what looks like 750. And 5 numbers also.

I’m not sure I definitely see either 750 or 18k there but it certainly looks like some kind of gold purity mark. Strange there are no inner marking. Usually there would be even with a local case. You have a bit if a mystery there. Based on the upper shape I’d guess at 14K being more likely but the lower number doesn’t look like 585 so that’s maybe not the case. It could if course be 9k, 10K or lots of other options depending on where it was made.

Usually external gold markings like that are a red flag on an Omega, but the out and out fakes don’t have genuine movements, yours does so who knows. Give it a clean up and inspect it closely. If you see any plate wear or brass break through, expect the worst.

I think you could be in bother on this one. I’m still not convinced the case is gold.

Are you familiar with handling gold and its weight? Have you had this tested?

At best it’s a locally made case, but given the apparent wear to some of the lugs and the external gold marks I’m not convinced.
