It will come out...takes a little wiggling but it will.

Well I wiggled, waggled, woggled and jiggled but couldn't get the tip of the pivot to exit the jewel, so it stays.

I cleaned all around the area on both sides, cleaned the underside of the bridge and put it together and now it's all in the cleaning machine.

I'm only doing the base caliber for now so I don't get too many parts confused.

Done!

Unfortunately my cleaning machine lives in my garage where the temp was about 34ºC, so I was in and out of the cool into the heat every few minutes.

The parts dried pretty quickly though 😁.

And now that the sun's over the yardarm, I'm going to have a coldie and forget about Valjoux issues until tomorrow.

Bent pivot?

Bent pivot?

No. Both ends run true.
I don't know why this one is so reluctant and was unwilling to try any force with it. I think it'll be fine as is.

Just for reassurance that it can be done...

If the pivot isn't bent, then the only other thing that comes to mind is that the section of the main plate that overhangs the fourth wheel might be bent down slightly.

Cheers, Al

Thanks Al. I had no doubt it could be done but I was unwilling to use any force and all of my jiggling was to no avail.

The plate looks flat to my eyes, but as we know, tolerances in watches can often be "invisible".

The base caliber is now back together and doing a short run to remove the epilame from the pallet stones etc.

Base caliber complete.

Not bad for a 70 year old.

Now to start building the chrono assembly.

Putting the dial side together and I noticed another little 😕 when referring to my pre-service photos.

Anyone spot the issue?

Only one clue: What is the date in Hawaii as I type this (WED 26 JAN 16:57)?

I'll leave it until tomorrow morning to see if anyone can spot it.

The answer is that it's still the 25th on our side of the dateline. But I see both a 25 and a 26 so neither have run off since you took it apart.

I'm setting an alarm on this thread. Now, where does that alarm hook up to?

Nobody spotted it?

The clue about the date was to point to the area in question.
Look at the screw head in the dial ring at the 25 marker on the date wheel.
Compare it to the other two near the 18 mark and the 7 mark.
Looks different doesn't it.

That's because it had been installed under the dial ring.

🙄
