We were on our way to tennis last night when I snapped this - my wife asked what for, so I told her about this thread. She said "so you are all taking pictures of your knobs to post on the forum?" 😉

You tell her that vbrad26 thinks your knob is quite nice. Looks like it has a good feel in the hand. Firm.

‘73 BMW 3.0 CS hotrod. Close ratio sport gearbox. The Seiko supermod kinda fits the zeitgeist.

The US is abysmal in the manual transmission count, just 3.7% of registered vehicles are manual, and less than 1.5% of new vehicles sold are manual. It's a lost skill for drivers. Many valets won't park a manual transmission car, the kids don't know how to operate it.

The same can be said of China and Hong Kong. As barely anybody here knows how to drive stick? They think that driving an automatic is more convenient that driving stick is an antiquated way of driving. Being from the UK I know how to drive stick as learning how to drive stick allows you to drive an automatic as well. But if you learn to drive an automatic then you are stuck driving an automatic all your life

Brilliant! It must be so confusing to wives.

(A non-related husband/wife joke:

Just reminded today that it’s been a long time since I owned/drove a vehicle with…;
A choke
Double de-clutching
Starting handle
Non self cancelling trafficators …,
Wing mirrors that had to be set from outside the vehicle, and …
No central locking or air conditioning 😳

Thinking of my first car how about:
interior door handle was a loop of wire
start button was on the floor and simply pushed contacts in the main battery lead directly together
"heater" with no external fresh air supply, just fanned the interior air around
opening windows that had to be pushed horizontally not up/down
battery just behind driver's seat with no cover over it
single speed windscreen wiper
no windscreen washer (until I fitted one)
no seat belts (until I fitted them)
rubber floor covering
headlamp full/dip switch was a button on the floor next to the clutch pedal
no synchromesh on 1st gear (and had to be held to stop it dropping out of third, but that was wear and tear)
no wing mirrors at all
carburettor air intake that had to be moved between summer and winter positions
ignition switch with key number stamped on face

and......
at six years old had more rust than steel forming the bodywork.

Not this actual example, I never thought of wasting film on mine 😜
