Matches 2 and 3 were easy to vote, but Match 4 with Hamilton vs Fangio was hard to decide!

The toughest one for me is Schumacher vs Lauda. 🤔
Schumacher was like the Michael Jordan of F1 when F1 motorsports exploded into international TV. Bringing F1 to a wider and more popular audience. Probably the reason why F1 & Ferrari are global brands today.

I give out my respect to Hamilton’s 6x F1 World Titles but Fangio won 5x F1 World Titles in 4 different car manufacturers. 1.5 Maserati, 1.5 Mercedes, 1 Alfa Romeo, 1 Ferrari. It speaks alot about the driver more than the team, on probably the toughest & roughest racing environment at that time 👍

Sorry for the drivers, but without Bernie Ecclestone we wouldn’t have the F1 as we have it today. Maybe it would have perished in some critical period of crisis.

Yes, possibly Senna and Ecclestone will reach the grand final on that full bracket with 32 contenders... both had long talks in the paddock, as Bernie highly regarded Senna's opinions and advice... but I think whoever brought the magic to F1 should win whoever made it big business

I agree. While Ecclestone absolutely made F1 a huge business success, without the drivers as superstars of the show it wouldn't have happened.

To that end and to be fair, it's "Senna AND Prost" that deserve the credit. It was their incredible rivalry that brought such immense interest to the sport. I do not believe Senna without Prost would have been as influential, nor would Senna's legend be what it is today.

I do not believe Senna without Prost would have been as influential, nor would Senna's legend be what it is today.

Yes, the great quality of Prost as a driver is what gives even more merit to the results that Senna achieved vs Prost... and for example to the more than 1.4s that took advantage of him, with the same car, for the Pole Position in Monaco 1988.

Both had a great rivalry, but at the same time a great mutual respect, and in the last six months of Ayrton’s life, also a great friendship... that phrase in Imola for the French TV, saying that he missed his friend Alain, left Prost very touched.

Prost went to Senna's funeral in Brazil (like most F1 active pilots, except Schumacher...), and is currently an ambassador for the Ayrton Senna Institute, maintaining -logically- a great relationship with Ayrton’s family...

For Senna & Prost, there was intense rivalry on the track but also great mutual respect off the track especially in the last few months of Senna. Prost mentioned it in an interview why he didn’t like the movie “Senna” since it only highlighted the “rivalry” and only described their friendship in passing. Prost helped Senna in such a way that Senna had more drive, more passion and more focus. It is the competitiveness drive of Senna which allowed him to be great but he also appreciated the value of their competition. Senna even mentioned that without Prost, he wouldn’t have that desire to be on top! Towards the end, it made him more mature in such a way that it was only respect that followed after that. Cheers to the both of them, great F1 Champions! 😀😀

Very interesting poll TBH 😉 Carlos Sainz, 2 time WRC Champion who both won the Championship in a Toyota Celica GT4 (1990 & 1992) also bested Rally Legends, 4 time WRC Champion Tomi Makinen & 6 time consecutive WRC Champion Sebastien Ogier! 😲😲

At 57, he has won his third Dakar Rally (toughest rally on the planet) driving for three different manufacturers (VW 2010, Peugeot 2028, Mini 2020) 😲😲

TBH, I didn’t think he would make it after the first round. But looking more closely, he has been winning for three decades in TOP rally motorsports with different manufacturers! I guess his influence and reach extends beyond WRC giving him more international fandom and superstar acclaim across several generations! Even the WRC experts were suprised 😉 Cheers! 👍

Colin McRae beat Carlos Sainz with the same car (Subaru), and so did Sébastien Loeb (Citröen)

Simply those two direct comparisons with two drivers who beat him with same car (and also taking into account that Sainz had the help of team orders at the Rally Catalunya, and Sainz could not beat Colin even with that help), should be enough to not vote Sainz as the best WRC driver in history... 🤦

Without a doubt the elimination system in the panel favored Sainz, since he did not have to face pilots like Röhrl or McRae directly. The way the playoffs are paired determines the final result a lot ... as if they paired Senna and Fangio in the first round for example

About Dakar Rally... that is not WRC. It should not be taken into account. Furthermore, Sainz has participated in many editions of the Dakar, with a large number of DNF and accidents. His ratio of results is not exactly very good considering that he always was in teams clearly candidates for victory
