This particular piece is from the 80
Specs
Tag Heuer Professionall ref 844/5
Year ap 84-85
Movement Tag Heuer 3.89 / Eta Cal 2824-2 17 jewels. (No Hacking)

Now the problem is everything looks ok besides that it doesen’t have a serial number visible… Did these watches come without serial numbers? Or should it have it? If so where?
The movement has not a hacking even tho i think 2824-2 should have one. Was it removed for some reason or was the watch assembled without a hacking movement?

Not sure about the serial number but the hacking could just be the stop lever being left off after service or it could be bent and not touching where it should.
It's a cheap part so can be remedied.
Very nice watch btw 👍

My 844/5 (bought new by my father for my 18th birthday in .... err... hang on... 1991! ) doesn't have a serial number on the outside.

Internally there's a few things scratched into the caseback, but I've no idea if the one set of figures that "might" be a serial number actually are.

37453 "might" be a serial number of some sort: The other scratches I believe are dates when the watch was serviced (possibly) - I really ought to get the back off again and note them all down properly and see if they match with my memories of getting it serviced (it's been sent to Switzerland at least twice).

It looks like your caseback has 10424 scratched into it - but, like I say, I have no idea if that might be something official or not.

FWIW my 844/5 "does" stop the seconds hand when the crown is pulled right out (that's hacking, yes?), but: like I say - it's been serviced a few times so presumably this may have been fixed if it was ever an issue (I don't remember it ever not doing that).

Edit. Thanks for the answer the whole hacking part is missing in my watch. But i just wanted to know if it was ment to be in this particular ref xd. Ps someone commented that it should - basically meaning it might 100% be something like you said part broken, bent etc and since remowed or then it has just disappeared when someone serviced it😅.

Thanks for the answer yea so basically because it is a so called ”high grade” watch i would assume that there should be some sort of serial on my watch written in the same ”quality” like 844/5 so basically the 10424A - is just a watchmaker sign of service as in yours you have some of them aswell👍🏻 .
I think in this case according to your answer that my watch also should have hacking but Do you know by any chance wich caliber movement yours have - there is the 2824-2 17 jewels and the 2872-2 ???? No idea if i remember correctly the other ond but the second one used is a bit more rarer and has hacking and 21jewels instead of 17.

My guess is left out after a service, it happens! 😉
Eta part number for the stop lever is 9433, they are only a few pounds. Maybe buy one and have it fitted next time the watch is serviced.

This is the photo of the inside from the last time the caseback was off :
It "appears" to say "25 jewels" - so maybe it's a replacement from the last time it had a visit to the homeland. (which would have been.... err... early-mid 2000s I think?? It went for a service and repair (the second hand had fallen off!) via the old concession in Selfridges, Oxford Street, which is no longer there.)

I've only just twigged that the weight has "Calibre5" stamped on it.... so it's definitely not the original movement.

That's a bit of a gut-wrencher actually. 🙁

That's interesting, so TAG swapped out the whole movement?
I wonder if the second hand pinion had snapped, less man hours in swapping than tearing down and repairing.

No no! listen im talking about the 80s 844/5. Not 90s - 2000 i think yours is good tho the first calibre 5 has been since 1982 i think but was used in the first gen aquaracers…

Besides the bought new in 1990 would totoally explain it! So i’d say it is a fully originall movement on yours no problem😃
