US Tariffs on Switzerland

I don’t think that a SCOTUS invalidation of the executive order creating the tariffs will have any effect on the removal of the $800 exemption.

https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/07/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-is-protecting-the-united-states-national-security-and-economy-by-suspending-the-de-minimis-exemption-for-commercial-shipments-globally/#:~:text=The President signed into law the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which permanently repeals the statutory basis for the de minimis exemption worldwide effective July 1, 2027.

Congress already got rid of it. The EO just accelerated the repeal.

My objection was always about the reasoning and scapegoating. Tell the people the truth first.

Love and lolly’s between Donnie and the Swiss. It’s back to 15%.All it took was a bribe in the form of a Rolex desk clock and US Open tix ( lord knows what else) . As a retired Procurement Director..his brazen disregard for ethics and conflicts of interest is breathtaking.

Even if the Supreme Court kills the current tariffs, a simple majority in Congress can set them at whatever rate Trump says. I would not count on tariffs going away.

I doubt the slim majority in Congress is going to be implementing any tariffs based on Trump's recommendations. Besides, Trump is feeling the heat on people's attitudes on 'affordability' which is the new buzz word in the country. They realize tariffs aren't helping things in that regard. The whole tariff issue is slowly being resolved, by the end of the year they will be pretty much back to normal.

I think Larry means what else Trump and his family is getting. The investment in the US promises are usually a BS "commitment" with no actual meaning or follow-through.

There have been a lot of these “agreements” that are nothing but announcements.

The key is how many deals get through congress…so far I don’t think any have.

He's more worried about where he has stuck it coming out rather than where he's going to stick it!

Oh heck, I said that out loud, better notify my tax accountant for incoming!

That’s not the “standard rule”. Tariffs have always been assessed based on the country of origin

Yes and no. Depends on what bloc trading agreements are in place.

Although I believe the US has exempted itself from most international agreements .

Fantastic news now all the Swiss brand watches will roll back prices accordingly 😂😂😂
They won't and frankly it would be unwise. It's going to 15% now but could go to 50% next week on a whim.

Indeed … We would be fired only one example for the daily behavior we are witnessing.
