Universal Geneve buckle 16mm stainless steel

Hello to all,
hope all of you are in good health 馃榾
I have this buckle and would like to know your opinion as I don't see any inscription or marking inside the buckle , do you think is 100% genuine ? if so from what period should it be as UG signature was changing .

My opinion is, it looks fake.
It looks like the logo is genuine, from a type 1 14mm buckle (1950s), but it has been put onto some aftermarket 16mm buckle and heavily polished to try to disguise it...
Obviously, the 16mm demand a higher price in the market than 14mm, so it would make sense from an "economic" point to try this...

I've never seen a UG buckle that looks like that before.

Here's a 14mm that I just recently bought....

thanks for your feedback, I bought it together with a watch and my watchmaker said it's genuine but I have my doubts as no marks on the inner part of the buckle, that's why I asked. thanks

These are a dammed minefield. I鈥檓 seeing a fake. That said, its more fun than a generic buckle.

FYI, there is a fake buckle producer in Northern Italy (outside Milan), who seems to have made bags full of them in steel and "gold colour", for 14 and 16mm strap ends.
Most of his fakes seem to be copies of the type 2 style buckle.
In short, beware of any buckles coming from Italy, particularly when the seller has more than 1, and of course analyse them very closely...

Totally agree. I bought one such buckle from him just to see what they were. It bent like a paperclip, suffered corrosion immediately and I ended up throwing it out. AVOID.

Looks fake, due to the "melted ice cream" appearance. It was probably made from a mold made from an original, and in the process the sharp edges became rounded. Also the lack of hallmarks is suspicious.

yours looks completely fine to me. The 14mm style that I posted is different, I don't believe that style U exists in the 16mm size.

That one was 14mm inner diameter - the title was misleading, in the description it was stated 16mm outer and 14mm inner.
(...and my opinion is neither professional nor guaranteed to be correct 馃槣)

@berrychlossom the strap/buckle you posted looks fine to me. 馃榾
