UG's French Connection: A Jaeger Uni-Compax

The combination of Jaeger, UG (Martel), rose gold, and two registers was just too much to resist. Here is a recent acquisition, a Jaeger chronograph with UG/Martel cal 285 inside, in a 35mm rose gold case, probably for the French market.



The case back is numbered according to the UG system. The case serial number puts it in the 1938-1941 range, according to Sala. As it's pretty close to the end of the range of numbers for that period, 1941 sounds right.



The inner case back is hallmarked and stamped "FAB. SUISSE." It bears only the case maker's number, and is not signed Jaeger or UG. The case maker was Favre & Perrelet, who made cases for UG until about 1940, per Sala.



The movement, a UG/Martel cal 285, is signed Jaeger and marked "FAB. SUISSE." The movement serial number puts it in the 1941-1942 range, according to Basha.

Nothing evident. I haven't scrutinized it with a loupe yet for something potentially hidden by the crystal.

No "SWISS MADE" or variant of such to be seen.
