Ugly News For The Non-desirable Gold Watches

This is bad news for some of the solid gold watches that are not on a vintage-watch collector's hit-list.

I have made one suggestion on how to save these unfortunate watches in the 'Longines Section - Grand Prize Melted' of this forum. If anyone else can come out with alternative suggestions or ideas, so that we can save some of these classic vintage-watches from the melting-pots of gold-smiths, please let us hear from you.

Do bear in mind, we collect vintage-watches, not for the sake of making money but for the love of vintage-watches.

Let's call this natural selection for vintage watches. Just like the weak and sick animals are culled by predators, the ugly and undesirable watches will be eliminated by rising gold prices. There are TONS of pocket watch movements out there, and we don't even see the dime-a-dozen dials with generic movements that get trashed when their cases are melted. Sadly, some of the good pieces will be broken up and scrapped too, a sort of collateral damage. Just as the gene pool for a species is strengthened via natural selection, the market is stronger for the surviving watches.
