Tudor P01 on a bracelet

This story starts several months ago while browsing in my AD I tried in the P01. I like Tudors and really love my 58. With a 17cm wrist the size is just perfect for me. I was expecting the P01 to be totally unwearable, but was curious. Having tried it on I was surprised to find I liked.

Fast forward to covid based boredom, found one online at a price about 30% below retail and having shifted some pieces I was not wearing i decided I'll try the P01.

Still like, and it's very wearable, dont get me wrong, its large. The strap, often referred to as hybrid leather rubber, is really a rubber strap, with a very slim piece of leather stitched in. However I wanted it on a bracelet. Those familiar with the watch will know you cannot just swap out to a bracelet.

Armed with an aftermarket black bay fitting bracelet a dremel and an vice I decided to make the bracelet fit the P01.

After a bit of persuasion, it does.

Only did it an hour ago, so need to wear it for a few days to see if I like it.

Requires removing one permanent link (the most difficult part) and cutting slots in the centre links on either end to make sure you can get it off again.

If I like it, I'll get a tudor 22mm riveted bracelet and have a pro do the mod. I'm sure there are some tweaks I'd try if doing it again. But so far so good.

Still an ugly duckling, but maybe a swan in few decades, only time will tell

Whoa! That looks so much better on a bracelet. Thanks so much for this write-up.

I really want to check one of these out in person when the local AD reopens. I have a large-ish wrist (7.75-8"") and a soft spot for oddball watches. Maybe I'll be able to pull it off...

I put my name on the list for the P01 and the S/G Chrono right away.
Tried the P01 on—I was very excited, because I love unique watches and I loved the dial. Sadly, it was way to long for me. I’m not sure how one can measure the lug to lug.
The SG Chrono suffers from the same problems that the other BB41s do—the slab-sided case makes it wear really chunky.
Both were wonderfully made. Tudor puts out quality product with wonderful straps and bracelets—especially at the price.

Nice write up mate. Do you happens to have pictures of the watch without the bezel locking mechanism? Can you even remove it?

I was thinking the same thing about taking off the bezel locking end pieces, that it might look better. I saw a guy on Instagram, @misterenthusiast who managed to put a Milanese bracelet on his and it looks pretty good too. Here is a pic from his Instagram:

It does look large and not very wearable, but nice to hear some positive notes on the P01! Great job

Regarding the bezel, and the associated lock, while I'm sure its removable, it looks like it requires an special tool, and even if you did manage to remove it, there are no hole for spring bars, and the holes that are there are both too large and too close to the case to be used for mounting a strap or bracelet

It is possible to fit any 20mm strap or bracelet to the penultimate (lone) link.

What I wanted was a bracelet that looked seamless, and to achieve that I needed a bracelet that would attach in the same way the link on the bracelet did.

This is what required the dremel. As you will see above these bracelet links have grooves and slots to allow the attach to what is the bezel locking system. So I needed to mod the end links on the donor bracelet I had.

The obseverant amongst you will notice the links are different lengths, and this is why I needed to remove the final permanent link, as the centre link is longer.

And now to show my butchering (thankfully it's not visible when wearing

Finally, its really growing on me. But not one for delicate affairs. It's a large lump of steel dangling at the end of your arm. 196gm

However it manages to be pretty at the same time, and the dial really is stunning

That is a great mod. Thanks for sharing. This is the one Tudor I am planning on getting, and I will use your experience as my inspiration to do a similar mod.

Thanks again for your intrepid foray into P01 modding. Its definitely a little ridiculous, but it's growing on me.

Any chance you can get a shot of how it looks on the wrist from further away (i.e. not from your own POV)? Curious to how it looks from a 3rd person perspective.

Lol, thanks so much. I can comiserate. My COVID beard is out of control.

I've gotta say, this thread has really renewed my interest in this model. Now, I just have to wait and see when the ole AD reopens. Guess I should also wait and see how my finances are looking.

Thanks to this madman you can now also see how your watch will look after use years of abuse! I believe his procedure was to rub it on his concrete countertop and then a bleach treatment for the bezel...

P Toledano has a different net worth than I do but I would just get a proper vintage piece instead 😗

Hey, he's out there asking the hard questions (and rubbing luxury objects against hard surfaces) so that we don't have to. 🙄

You guys should've go to his IG, he had videos of every single step he did. I feel bad for the watch though. Also, I didn't get what kind of effect he was trying to get by bleaching non painted bezel.
P.S. We need to check local laws - is there a jail time for watch abuse???😁😁😁::stirthepot::

He's also baked the dial and got the hands lumed to match the baked hour markers!

It appears that the P01 is finally, officially discontinued. Any other owners holding onto these now rare hunks of steel until they become obscenely valuable? 😎
