Trying to buy a 1992 TAG Heuer 2000

Hello,

For a gift I am tying to purchase a Tag Heuer 2000 watch preferably from 1992.

It is very difficult to get exact dates from sellers and so I was wondering whether there were any signs that would help me to know if it's from that year. To be honest I would be happy with one from the early 90s because that would be close enough.

For example the attached image, could this be from 1992?

Thank you in advance for any assistance

Off the top of my head, that one is a bit later 96 onwards. They changed to the lume filled 12 numeral sometime around then.
A 92 would have a lozenge shaped marker at 12 rather than a number.

You also see them with an all silver 12 numeral, they are later still, so you can discount those from your search.

They are actually date stamped on the movement, providing they still have the have the original of course.
Not always practical to get the seller to take the back off though.

Nice clean watch, they are so well built and really carry their age well.

AHH that's very helpful to know. Thank you for that.

This is a page from the '92/'93 Catalog, showing what a similar 2000 from that year should look like.

It's very difficult tell the exact year a 2000 watch was produced. Even the date stamp on the movement might not be the year of the watch, because TAG would sometimes have old supplies of movements for use in newer watches. For example, I have a rather rare Formula 1 which I know was specifically released in 1992, but its movement is date stamped with an earlier year.

Easier to tell when a watch was purchased if the original owner still has the receipt.

Agree with "The HighwayMan" that the picture is indeed a later model than 1992 as TH was still using round bezels in 1992 and did not transition to the octagonal style until mid-to-late 1990s. Anyway, late 1980s and early 1990s was a "classic" look for them, I am in the market looking for a gently-used second hand 962.006r (WE1110r) "full-sized" 37mm case model from that same time period, exactly like in the picture above. Jet black matt dial face with a white numbering on black date wheel and colored logo and lume instead of "12" above the logo.
