A mate of mine hooked himself through the nose with a treble hook lure once.

We couldn't help him for about 10 minutes, the laughing was paralysing us 馃榿

The back is brushed if you did not find out yet.
Nasty hooks...

Thanks Florian, I shall make it my weekend project to get it back to better condition.

Well that was quick, all finished.

I wanted the case brushing to be nice and straight, not like some I've seen 馃槻

I found and old case the same size as the case-back and McGyver'd it onto a square wooden block, with the case-back aligned parallel to the edge of the block.

A jig of MDF board with the 240 grit paper clamped by the guide bar completed the set-up.

A couple of minutes of careful stroking and the case has a nice original brushed look.

I couldn't get all of the original scratches out but didn't want to go any further in case I started to lose the WATERPROOF marking.

Here's the setup

And here is the wooden block/old case "jig" showing the case-back with it's new brushed finish.

Looks really great, how do you find it to wear? I had a nice perforated black rally strap on mine, you can get them real cheap on eBay...17mm I think! 馃榾

Stuck spring bars?

Air drill fitted with a cut off wheel (or a Dremel if you have the high speed model), 30,000+ rpm, very light pressure (don't let those revs drop or the vibrations build)......

and yes, cover the case in heavy tape to reduce the schrapnel wounds.

sometimes the most brutal methods are the best!
