Im looking a the piece. Any thoughts on this guys?
Tough to say, since this is a case variation that's new to me. Serial number is in Monodatic-range, Ref starting with a "1", which would indicate gold, is fine as well. Seems like they used flat crowns for their 18 k gold Mono-models, so I'd say that’s fine a well. Speaking of the face of the watch: the seconds hand looks good to me lengthwise, but as far as the Monos that I've come across, all the metal on the dial had the same colour. This seconds hand looks darker than the rest. Then: hours and minutes. Are they filled with luminous material or is there a ridge in the middle? can’t really tell. What do the other folks in here say?

Fresh onto my wrist from what was likely it’s first service in close to 70 years. New crystal to boot....and running like a charm!

Very nice!!! I would say that the monodates are the grandaddys. The evolution would be monodate - monodate automatic - monodatic. Do u also have the case and the crown to the movement and dial?

That’s the only other Monodate I’ve seen on the forum! Mine was my Dad’s watch bought in the early fifties from Bensons London.

Very cool, can we get a case serial and reference photo or number?

The dial and movement I posted was from eBay, not mine, so no case info to go along with it....

I don’t know if you guys have seen it, but there is a great thread by @Dre on the 11/11/2017 headed Universal Genève Information. That enabled me to date my watch to 1951, and get case and movement information as well.
Photo of reverse of the case attached.

Very nice, thanks! Yes, dre‘s thread about UG is great 😀 funky little fact: the earliest monodate automatic (which has the ref 200101 - same as the later monodatics) i have come across is in the 146 xxx serial-range. Would be very interested to hear your thoughts on this @bgrisso @MarktheTime @Larry S . Cheers!

What are you asking for thoughts about specifically?

Well... don‘t the serials indicate that the automatic version was before the monodate? Or does this point towards the two models being around at the same time?

I haven't been totally paying attention to the serials and the models, do you mind doing a cliffnotes for where things stand right now?

There's one just like that on ebay right now, although yours is in considerably better condition to say the least...

Although there's quite a bit of brassing on both. My initial thought was that maybe they were WWII-era and there were supply issues but the serial number puts them into 1951. I've made a cheeky offer on that one but the seller is yet to bite; it's a good job I have another JWB on the way 😗.

I’ve just taken a look at eBay and you’re right, and I thought my Dad’s had had a pretty hard life! I thought it might be worth around £300 so nice to know I was in the right area. Not that it matters, it’s a family piece, and I’ll pass it on.
@Carlton-Browne It’s dated to 1951 but I know my Dad bought it new from Bensons in 1955 so it seems it must have been in stock for some time!
