The Furio Flyback

We’re bada-bingeing The Sopranos at my house these days. Last night I was delighted to notice an old favorite on the wrist of—for my money—the coolest character in the greatest television series of all time.

He’s a leg-breaker. He’s a heart-breaker. He’s Furio Giunta. And in Season 4, Episode 12, beginning around the 5:35 mark, we get a good look at his instantly recognizable Zenith Rainbow Flyback, a great choice for the stylish Neapolitan bad-ass of 2002.

The actor Federico Castelluccio is in fact a more interesting guy than Furio... an accomplished painter and art collector who once purchased a misidentified Guercino, worth up to $10 million, for a mere $140,000. Among his works is this Garden State update of Piero della Francesca’s Duke and Duchess of Urbino... the Duke and Duchess of North Caldwell:

Va bene, let’s see your Furio Flybacks!

Nice post! I also noticed the watch in the same scene. Furio was my favorite character from the series and this particular reference was already on my radar. Definitely moved onto my shortlist after realizing the connection. I'm still searching for the right example at the right price though.

Please stop talking about the Rainbow- I’m trying to save up for one and every time there is another raving post about them, they go up a little more. 🙁

To me from the look of the knurled bezel edge, the pushers and the colour in the sub-dial I think it’s a rainbow

Are you sure thats not a Fortis?...

I think it’s unmistakably a Rainbow Flyback, right down to the touches of green and yellow in the minutes subdial.

Does anyone know why there are 3 white lines on the minuted subdial pointing to 3, 6 and 9?

Many watches have these that relates to the old days phone calls that used to be charged in 3 minute blocks.

When you look you will see very common on all early chronographs
