The Best Watch for a Teenager

Parents are considering buying your son or daughter their first watch. I would highly suggest an Omega Seamaster Quartz. This is because your son or daughter can wear the watch in any occasion whether it's playing sports or going to a formal event. The quartz is also really durable which is the perfect choice for a teenager and the quartz model also requires much less care and maintenance than a mechanical watch. And even though the watch might be a bit expensive it's worth the investment because the watch's price could go up and your son or daughter could wear this watch as their only watch for 10 to 20 years. Lastly, I think that buying a nice watch for your kid is an investment worth making because it can also teach them the value of objects and give them a watch they can wear for their entire life.

Your teenager must be a bit more responsible than mine. Swatch or Casio are more their speed. To be fair mine are 12 and 14.

I enjoyed the OPs post. But in jest, SeikoMatt begs to differ.

Unless the teen expresses interest in actually wearing a watch, buying one for them that costs more than $50 is pointless. It will just live in their sock drawer.

HeuerSteve recommends Omega Quartz!
What did Heuer do to you?
Lets see those Heuers Steve.
That's funny I used to have a Heuer Montreal but sold it for a Rolex

I'm sure if they've seen and owned the watch they can be much more responsible because mine was also unresponsible but when he got the watch he learned to care for it.

That I agree you should only buy them the watch if they are really interested in owning it and really have a love for watches.

I got both my nephews Seiko solar watches when they turned 16. Think the price for each was around $150 or so. They enjoyed them for a few years then went into a drawer. Best not to spend too much money on a watch for a teenager, unless you have money to burn and are willing for a $1500 watch to be thrown into a drawer, forgotten, then have movement ruined because they never changed the battery.

Just stick with a Seiko.

I gave my nephews and niece TAG Heuer old model quartz watches, two got destroyed but they were bought for Seiko money anyway so not the end of the world, one of them survived which was a ladies Aquaracer quartz that I picked up for $200 used and she still wears it over a decade later. There’s some big depreciating good quartz pieces out there if you look around

Watches are not “cool” for teenagers these days, with all the electronics around or on them watches are not needed.

Depends on the teenagers age , size , build etc . But you wont go far wrong with a GShock GA - 2100 series , plenty of choices ,great price point . Pretty much teen or adult proof & worry free wearing, it can take a lot of abuse too .

Boy 2: Seiko Turtle
Seiko SKX007 ( from when you could get them for under $200 )
Swatch ( one of those sweet, white NASA chronos )
Red Baby G Shock

Boy 1: Seiko Kinetic sport watch
Deep Blue diver ( sort of a PO homage, excellent watches for the money )
Omega SMP midsize auto in blue from the 90s ( originally mine bought when you could get those used at a reasonable
price. Given to him as a graduation gift/ incentive ).

They got into watches at about 9 and 13, respectively. I’m not much of a collector, but maybe from the last generation of men who weren’t really dressed unless they had a watch on ( pretty sure I was in the 4th grade when I got my first watch ). I think I passed that on more than an appreciation of watches themselves. That’s sort of manifested itself, though.

IMHO.....

HS graduate..< $1K wristwatch would be better.....like a Luminox or Seiko.....
an Omega would be more appropriate for a College graduate....

And again this all depends on the financial status of the giver.

For me as a teen it needed to be completely indestructible, but G-shocks were not available then. So my dad, when I was about 16, said "Your next watch will be one you can afford to buy yourself."

He relented for my 21st birthday present and I still wear that watch 50 years later. 50 years of scars though, both the watch & I.

I would disagree with that because if they knew the watch was 1.5k then they will probably value it more knowing that it is expensive.
