The 321 was retired when the 861 was introduced. According to this article from Fratello (click me): "Omega did so for two reasons: the movement was more accurate than the caliber 321 that ticked at 18,000vph (instead of 21,600) and it was also cheaper to produce." Hope that helps!
Second point was certainly the main reason, as the Lemania base was later used in adjusted positions by Breguet, Patek, Vacheron, etc.
A lot of 18k movements are chronometer certified.
