Djokovic/Alcaraz match - the main takeaway is that at this point Djokovic can still compete in the 3 set matches but not in the Grand Slams. Wondering if he is going to do "1 more year" or retire at the end of this year or right after the AO.

I think he'll play in 1 more AO and Wimbledon, the majors he had the most success. 2 weeks of best of 5 is quite a workload, I expect he'd play in fewer run-up tournaments to those majors.

Or .. being a showman he should tell everyone next year is his last, making it the Djoker farewell tour. The way Derek Jeter did.

It's the men's final most predicted, and hopefully it's a good one. Felix put up a good fight, particularly in the second set where his serve was ticking along well. But he never gave up, and I'm sure he will rue the missed opportunities he had on all those break points. Felix and Shapo are the only people to even take a set off Sinner so far in this event.

Some of the rallies were amazing - both players just hammering the ball back and forth at what looked like 95% on every shot - one was 19 shots before Felix netted the ball. Felix did well when he came to the net, something he's not known for, but that I hope he incorporates more into his game. I read that he was most pleased with his mental performance through this event, and to me that's a very good sign as that can add a ton of confidence no matter what the sport is.

Djokovic now holds another record that Roger or Rafa never held - he is the only man in the open era to make all 4 semifinals in majors in one year, and fail to make any of the finals. I didn't see his whole press conference, but the bits of it I did see he looked resigned to the fact that he's not good enough to beat these guys. I saw some speculation that he might finish at Australia or Wimbledon next year, so I guess we'll see. The fact that he had a relatively mundane run through the draw (some 4 set matches but nothing that went to 5), and then talked about not having the energy to compete is striking - I can't recall him saying those things before.

Carlos didn't look like he had to work too hard at all. His level was just so far above Novak's.

Women's final will be interesting. For Anasimova to make it back to a final after the terrible double bagel defeat at Wimbledon is pretty amazing, so I'm going to be cheering for her I think. I'll have to see if I can put up with Sabalenka's screaming enough to watch the whole match...

Felix is always fun to watch and what a great run this tournament for him. His improvement, just this year alone, is amazing. If he can improve his backhand (more consistent topspin, less dependent on slice) the sky is the limit. He moves so well. His serve and forehand are already world class.

Sinner joining great company, as the only player other than Laver, Djokovic and Federer to make all 4 major finals in the same year.

I'll find myself a bit torn on who to root for on the women's final: but I'm giving the edge to Anisimova. I'm hoping she took her lessons from Wimbledon and can apply them to stay cool and contained (in her own head) today. One thing that is guaranteed are BIG shots by two players who can hit a winner from anywhere in the court.

I only saw part of the men’s doubles since I was actually playing tennis today, but what I did see was good. The Brits really caved at the end of the third. Had match points and failed to capitalize, then lost the next 2 games to lose the championship. Brutal.

Women’s final was okay. Sabalenka did what she needed to.

Looking forward to the men’s final tomorrow!

I saw very little of the women's final, but can't say the result was too surprising. September in Massachusetts, for a parent of 3 young kids, means I was at soccer games all day. LOL This will be their last soccer year. Between 7-9 hours of tennis each week + school + 2 days of baseball in the offseason it's a bit much - more for me and the wife, they love it all.

The men's final could be an instant classic!

Hope so but not too optimistic. Sinner may be dealing with an injury. He was massaging/stretching his arm even during the first set of the match with Felix. Hope he is doing better and we'll see a competitive match.

He said it was fine after the treatment and that he didn't feel it anymore, but you never know if that is just head games for the next match or not. I guess we'll see.

At the post-match on-court interview Sinner was quick to write it off, which is why I didn't put too much stock in it. He also said Felix may have been dealing with an injury (remember him falling down on one point) and hoped he was okay -- which to me seemed to intimate he was fine.

I hope so. Like you, I want a final with both as near to 100 as possible.

But as we know, injuries seem worse a day or two later than the day of.

This finally puts an end to the Rolex vs Omega question.
https://apnews.com/article/trump-us-open-sporting-events-boos-5a80b02c78403f1f2f87a30852ffb0f5

Trump attending the US Open as Rolex’s guest despite Swiss tariffs. Any boos may not be seen on TV

Very frustrated that this is delaying the match...

They will likely put the match on a delay so they can mute the boos out...as I'm quite sure there will be some.

After all the butt kissing the tech guys did the other day (they all had their dear leader moment praising Trump, even Bill Gates FFS...), the fact that Rolex is hosting him doesn't surprise me at all.

So many people still trying to get in and the match is already late in the first set, even though they started nearly a hour late. If I had paid for this I would be absolutely livid. What a shit show. Cheapest tickets were $700…

Alcaraz looks incredibly sharp. Sinner misses some of the shots he would've normally made. 1 set to Alcaraz.

Alcaraz is firing on all cylinders. Won 6-2 in the first set. Sinner seems shell-shocked, frankly.

Not surprised at the outcome. Good match overall but Carlos was just too good.

Certainly not an instant classic. I though Sinner, especially on a hard court, would prove more of a challenge today - but no match for Alcaraz firing on all cylinders.

Yikes…imagine paying this much only to miss a big portion of the match…

Interesting that the only time I saw the 🍊 was during the delay before the match, and they were commenting over it so no audio…

Was Trump there for the whole match? Or gone after the anthem, a photo op and a burger?
