To be honest I’m not a diehard fan of oval racing. But for race car drivers, in different disciplines, to venture into Indy500 means it’s a great big deal in the world of motorsports! 😲

I started watching Indy500 when it came to the spotlight after much hype as Fernando Alonso made his first attempt! I really do wish he acheives the last Crown! 👍

Dubbed “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, the event itself is filled with tradition and heritage. For the 106th Indy500, it will be on August 23, Sunday! It is a weekend break from F1 so it’s still RACE DAY Sunday 😁

IIRC I watched 1 or 2 Indycar races way back, when Montoya was in it. It was okay, but they just overtook each other every other lap so it was kinda meh. I know we moan about overtaking in F1 but when it happens it's usually meaningful. Then I see highlights and it looks exciting.... like you know, a car wins the race upside down, with three wheels and on fire.

I have watched a fair bit of NASCAR. It can be interesting although the short tracks get a little monotonous.

I guess I'm used to circuit racing, the ovals seem a little tedious...

I'm going to cheat a little - even though my own favourite TAG Heuer era is 1985-1999, I still have fond memories of Heuer's Ferrari sponsorship during the early 1970s. especially the wonderful little 312PB sportscars which I saw driven by some of my real heroes ; Andretti, Ickx, Peterson,Redman & Regazzoni. They were Ferrari's last, true, factory-team World Championship sports cars and sadly, despite great success between 1971-1973, failed to win Le Mans.

But that sound ! 👍

Overtaking every other lap is "meh"?! 😲
I still prefer F1 over Indy, but find myself falling asleep if I actually try to watch a F1 race live now days. It's just so boring to me now, compared to how it used to be in the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s or '90s.

Overtaking every other lap is "meh"?! 😲
But it's the same obvious pass at the end of the straight each time.... and you know they will be overtaken at the end of the next straight. It's not the same as a genuine dice.

I refer you to the post I made in the F1 thread where I gave examples of how F1 is no closer than it ever was, the only difference is now they don't break down, but that's because the engines are only working at a percentage of their potential.

The 70’s Ferrari and Heuer partnership in Formula 1 still has this certain charisma which up to this point gravitates alot of fans to this era. I for one bought my Heuer Monza because of the rich history of Ferrari & Heuer in this “Golden Age of Motorsports” F1 Legends such as Lauda, Regazzoni, Andretti, Rindt, Siffert all have great stories to share. Moments of victory & tragedy. It’s probably also the reason why I love and into Heuer Heritage 🥰

I realised that some guys here may wonder what this old codger is rambling on about when I referred to the Ferrari 'sound'. I hope this can link OK, but this guy on YouTube manages to capture it very well indeed. Despite being a modern video, the car still proudly carries the 'Heuer' sticker....


Oh - and turn the volume up to 11........
