Wow. Hope it's fast, as that gives less chance to enjoy its looks!

Still, good on Nissan for trying something different and adventurous

Thank you Werner;

TAG Heuer becomes the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch Partner of Nissan NISMO for their arrival in the mythical Le Mans 24 and the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the LM P1 category. First sight of the partnership came on the 1st of February, during the Super Bowl, no less!
...
Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer and President of Watch division of LVMH group, explains the reasons for this alliance: “TAG Heuer’s legitimate ties to endurance races in motor sports are without rival. I wanted an innovating partner to come back on these tracks. Nissan NISMO is the perfect challenger, a pioneer regarding the technology of the car and regarding its way to communicate specifically with the young through their massive presence on social media.” He added “ Motor racing is a fascinating universe, we need to educate today’s youth to love it. Look at the car, it’s powerful, outstanding and disruptive.”
...
TAG Heuer will assist Nissan for its first season in the LM P1 category of the FIA WEC as their Official timekeeper and watch, a great challenge for both. TAG Heuer has a long history at Le Mans starting back in the 70s with Ferrari and then with 5 consecutive wins, with Peugeot Sport in 2009 and with Audi Sport from 2010 to 2013. Let’s hope this is a good omen for the GT-R LM NISMO

“We are delighted to welcome TAG Heuer to the Nissan NISMO team,” said Darren Cox, Global Head of Brand, Marketing & Sales, NISMO. “The TAG Heuer brand is synonymous with success at Le Mans and we will do everything we can to continue this tradition of success. We share many values with TAG Heuer, not least our passion for motorsport and the recognition of what it can do for a brand. It’s great to have them on the team as we begin this new global challenge.”

Marc Gené has been announced as their 1st driver, his experience will be of great help: he was part of the Peugeot Sport winning adventure in 2009 at Le Mans and with Audi Sport in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The drivers will have the chance to wear a Monaco chronograph, a tribute to Steve McQueen, and to the legendary movie, Le Mans. The blue-eyed icon was wearing the blue-squared chronograph, which then became an iconic piece of TAG Heuer. A new page of this history is about to be written!

What a crazy car- Front wheel engine and front-wheel drive. And look at the width of the front tyres vs. rears!

Love that LeMans can have different approaches to winning, a stark contrast to the narrow F1 rules

Nissan VRX 30A NISMO: 3.0 litre, 60 degree V6, direct injection gasoline twin-turbo
Power comes from a 600-hp twin-turbo V6 mounted in front of the driver. The car itself is front-wheel drive. The gearbox resides in the nose and it not only distributes engine power to the wheels, but also drives a pair of flywheels that live under the driver's legs. Those flywheels power the rear axle with up to 1000 hp (!) for three-second bursts. Furthermore, the front tires are about twice as wide as the rear, the reverse of almost every race

couldn't agree more! I think it's very strange looking and bizarre, but simply love that it exists!

...that is literally a regular mid engined sports car but back to front...

The 3 sec burst of 4wd is intriguing and makes me want to have a look at the rules around that. I wonder if it's tied to the same rules (or lack of) that govern hybrid cars with electrical assistance to the rears?
The FWD explains the..... interesting shape of the car.

A very strange and very fascinating car. My next car also should have the exhaust
pipes in front of the windscreen, so that I
can enjoy the flames...
Thanks for sharing!!!

A sad update:

The Nissan GT-R LM NISMO has been withdrawn from active racing competition in the FIA World Endurance Championship until further notice, Nissan announced Friday.

Citing what it deemed multiple technical issues, including running without its hybrid Energy Recovery System (ERS) at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Nissan will withdraw from the Six Hours of Nürburgring, and has not indicated a race when it will return to action in the FIA WEC.

It will instead continue its testing program, predominantly but not exclusively in the United States.

“We know people will be disappointed but be assured that nobody is more disappointed than us,” said Shoichi Miyatani, President of NISMO.

“We are racers and we want to compete but we also want to be competitive. That is why we have chosen to continue our test program and prepare the GT-R LM NISMO for the strong competition we face in the World Endurance Championship.

“When you innovate you don’t give up at the first hurdle. We are committed to overcoming this challenge.”

An updated version of the car completed a two-day test at Circuit of The Americas last month with Olivier Pla and Harry Tincknell at the wheel. It’s understood the car continued to struggle pace-wise at the test.

Sure it's disappointing, but it was good of them to acknowledge their shortcomings and that they still haven't given up.

Hello Hubert,
I think it is okay for Nissan to take some time for further research
instead of burning money. Until today I'm not convinced that a
racing car should have a front wheel drive. That's why I drive a Subaru (However not in racing).
That's how physics are. But they had the courage to try it.
Perhaps they can turn the car 180 degrees around. That would
probably work much better. But I think, this is not what
they want to do. At least, they have the knowledge to do so.
Cheers
Werner

I agree Werner. I think they should change it to all-wheel-drive, or RWD. Time will tell.
Cheers!

Not a great year for TH in motor racing terms given this and the McLaren Honda debacle. I really wish they'd gone with Porsche, might've been able to give Alonso the ride for definite too. In the 21 years I've been going to Le Mans, the last three Nissan/Ben Bowlby cars have been the ugliest ever. IMHO of course

A team Porsche/TAGHeuer is my dream too. But I think, theire idea was different:
If Porsche or Audi win at Le Mans, it is
a superb performance. But it is also, what people expect. If the Nismo had won or at least reached a good position, this had been a sensation. And the extreme concept of the Nismo would have suited to the "technique d'avantgarde" campaign.
So let's wait and see what they will do in June 2016.
So far, they have Steve McQueen, who "
"never cracked under pressure".

Cheers
Werner
