TAG Heuer Monza - will there be a 50th anniversary edition, thoughts on genuine 76 one as well?

Hi all
I just joined and I am currently entertaining the idea of getting myself another watch for my 50th in Jan 26.
I am steering towards a Monza. They have a significance for me. The Monza as you know was released in 76.

Now does anyone know if the Monza, will be re released in 2026 to commemorate the 50th anniversary? It would make sense, don't you think? They did for the 40th year. So hmm will they do it for the 50th year?

So my question is should I go for a genuine 1976 version. Which i can get on chrono24 (see link below and pic below)

or should i get the 40th anniversary one, which is lovely as well (see link below and pic below)

or again will they be releasing a 50th anniversary one

I've got an original Cal 15 Monza too, it's great.

Very wearable size. Only thing I would caution is making sure you have a good watchmaker as not all will be happy to work on these.

Hmm thanks mate. I do not have a good watchmaker at all. With all of my tags, ive never had them serviced at all, and ive owned them for 14 years. Only the f1 ive had tag service department here in aus, fix it when the crown fell out after 14 years lol

keen to hear your thoughts on the monza, and anything u can tell me about the ones you have if its not too much trouble

I love it, it's really fun. I'd often looked at them whenever they were going for a decent price, just never bought. I picked this one up in rough shape, not running, and had my watchmaker bring it back to life.

These Chronomatic movements are really robust, and despite the difficulty in finding watchmakers who'll take them on I wholeheartedly recommend them.

I love the Monza Calibre 17 40th Anniversary. Probably the most comfortable watch I own. The titanium case and buckle make it very light, and the perforated leather strap is incredibly soft and supple... it's just lovely.

I bought it new at a TAG Heuer outlet in 2019, and it's always been perfect, with no service required. It only advances 0.2 seconds per day, and when I'm not wearing it, it's in the watch winder.

wow anthony do you own both? please tell me your thoughts on them

Yep I have both in the collection.
I prefer the Vintage but that may be due to the fact I'm going through a Vintage stage of life. Lol. The 40th is a beautiful watch also. I love the crystal and this watch photographs beautifully.

It will be very interesting to see if TAG Heuer does a 50th Anniversary Monza. But given the current design direction and language, I doubt it will top either the original or 40th Anniversary. More than likely, it will wear a TAG Heuer badge rather than Heuer.

E.g. The 2023 Carbon Monza was rather polarizing.

thanks guys for all the feedback much appreciated
i guess its opinion based here but yeh
not sure which to get?
genuine 1976 one - prob is i don't have a watch maker other than using tag service departments. Will they be ok to work on it?
40th seems good ok no probs
or wait to see if the 50th does come out

So if the 50th doesn't come out it will be out of the 40th anniversary or the genuine 1976!
if i cant get a watch maker to work on it other than tag service department should i avoid buying the 1976 one?
is the 1976 one a better watch than the 40th?
lots of questions here guys sorry

Around here we usually we solve these kind of problems by simply purchasing both. Therefore no regrets and happiness is insured. 😊

If it were me, I'd wait to see if TAG Heuer does release a 50th anniversary version. It seems you're undecided on an original or the 40th, so why not wait?

If the significance is your 50th BD, then either a 50th Anniversary or an original 1976 would seem to be more specially connected to you turning 50, rather than the 40th edition.

I'll throw one more in the ring for your consideration. There's also the original Calibre12 version, reference 110.511. It has symmetrical sub-dials and a better movement. It's also more rare, especially the early versions with Monza on the dial. Later versions didn't have Monza, only Heuer on the dial. I'd guess because Heuer stopped sponsoring the Ferrari team after 1979. Hence, I consider an early 110.511 to be the most special.

Here's some pics of the Monza Calibre12 ref 110.511. Which would be my personal choice, as worn by Niki Lauda.

thanks so much for this incredible insight. U the man!
yes definately love that one u posted above.

I like the one u posted, the 1976 one, and the 40th as well.
My only concern with an old one is if it needs work will tag service here in Australia service it. If they wont, i have no one else to turn to.
So it would have to be a 40th or a 50th if they bring one out

I also found this old thread which u weighed in on

I think i would go with the Vintage over the 40th if i had to keep just 1.
Its totally subjective though. There are others that would choose the 40th.

I think you will make the right choice for you.

Tag heuer in Sydney would more than likely service it. If not they will send it to Switzerland for service.
