Well the dial and hands look correct enough for an early Autavia, just the lume replacement seems more careless than what TAG is known to do with their restorations. The crown definitely looks incorrect though

Isn't a 95*** serial case a bit out of the ballpark for an "early" Autavia? And shouldn't it have a later than a 2nd Exec. dial as well as straight hands? However, the thin none-lume bezel complies with the serial #.

Yep.

If we assume the case is the original part then yes. And the bezel would suggest it is. So it's entirely possible this is a complete put-together

Hi,
I'm not an expert just a lucky owner of the same model. When I found it in 2011, I also found a list of Serial numbers in the web. As per the my text file copy the 95*** is from 1968 and therefore a Batch 3, so should not have any dauphine pointers anymore.
I also have not seen the bezel of that kind, all pictures I have seen shows the triangle with a "hole carved" in for the lume, this one looks flat and only printed. Never saw it that way. The dial and pushers look OK to me.

The Add says that crown, pusher glass and pointers were exchanged, case was polished and lume redone.
I got mine done in 2012 by a Heuer specialist in Germany. We left the case, bezel, pusher and crown as it was (was worn 45 years by same person, so the patina was well deserved), but did full service, new glass and carefully restoring the lume. Total bill was app 800€ that time. Even with new parts, inflation and TH Bonus, I wonder what they charged 9.5k€ for? If you are interested in it, I'd ask for the detailed bill or even check with TH for a photo documentation. Still it seems very high for the result with so many unclear points.

Here is a picture of mine after I got it back 2012.

I just saw there is another tread on the same model which may be a reference to compare

Cheers
Holger

Hello Holger
Provided that the serial number of your watch is in the 53*** to 59*** range it is a 2nd execution with a lume triangle in the bezel as described in the link provided by Jeff in the other thread. It looks correct and you did well. Your sercice costs are more in the usual line. The last Valjoux 72 I had serviced by Heuer in CH in 2018 cost 1050 CHF. 9K€ is robbery... Compare your lume-triangle-bezel to the later non-lume ones and you will notice that Heuer changed them around 1965.
Cheers

Hi Richard,
you are correct, it's in the 59*** range, well observed. The case was never done but the number is nearly faded.
The different lumes I never noticed before, but when I did picture search now, I found several, all with the "Jochen Rindt" pointers. So the offered one is not consistent.

Out of interest, how would you/the other specialists continue the "forensics" here. Are there any differences in the Val72 (there is no picture in the add)? I recall there were different labels on the bridge that may give further information. Is it possible that Heuer used what they had in store that time and finished it that way? Or did someone talked Heuer in to change the pointers to triple the price? My purchasing interest would have stopped here already.

My Carrera also had some unclear specs used, but the price was far below of this Autavia. I still keep looking on the vintage side, but there is always the feeling I may miss something.

Cheers
