I don't have access to my computer with some more conventional pics so I took some shalllow depth of field photos. About f5.6 and 12 inches away from the watches. This is using the newer of the 2 lenses. The focal length is about 12 inches to infinity.

I'm working off my small iPhone and didn't realize the 1st pic a little OOF but shows some of the lens tendencies. Pics are generally softer with more softness with close up pics. I'll take some outdoor/scenery pics tomorrow when there is light.

I do. I am one of those people complaining about collectors driving up prices.

I still like to shoot film every now and then. Usually I will pack an M7 or M3.

many many people still shoot film...including myself. My daily camera is a Leica M7, but I've shot with all of my cameras.

Wow. Just discovering this thread and it is awesome. I've been shooting a combination of film and digital for years, but have switched over to film almost 100% recently. The reasons are that 1) I hate post-processing, and find that I don't need to do as much with film, and 2) shooting with a mechanical camera is just more fun!

My cameras are nowhere near as cool/old as the ones in this thread - I've gone through a ton but typically shoot with a Minolta X-570 SLR with a 50mm 1.4 Minolta MD Rokkor-X lens, as well as a Ricoh GR-1 that pretty much lives in my pocket. The Minolta I find a perfect combination of new and old - fully manual but with aperture priority and a built in light meter for modern convenience. The GR-1 suits my street style sensibilities, and the quality of the photos consistently surprise me for such a small point and shoot (which I guess means I should stop being surprised).

Cameras and watches are in a constant battle for my discretionary funds. The good news is I'm getting more focused in collecting both, figuring out what I really like/need in both areas and selling off the rest. Well, I haven't actually sold off anything yet, but I am planning on it. Oh, and I'm on the hunt for my first Leica, if anyone is looking to offload one... shoot, maybe I'm not on the right track after all.

I can post some pics of my cameras later on, but like I said they are nowhere near as cool as the ones already posted.

I keep wanting to get back into film but only want to buy one. I don't want to start at the bottom and then buy the next best and so on until the house is full of old cameras which aren't used.
Any suggestions ?
I'm assuming Leicas M3/M4 are in the list but what else is there which will take good pictures and not be a pain to load or setup.
Maybe a Kodak retina II/III of Everest fame ?

Depending on the size (not format) of the camera:
- rangefinder cameras from the 30's-2000s
- 70' SLRs are very cheap and have great lenses. Nikon are a dime and dozen.

Leica Ia (4 digit serial number 1928)
I must have posted this in another thread since it I don't see it here. But since #1928 showed up I thought I'd include #1248. It was my grandfather's. I've passed it along to my brother since he is the more active photographer these days.

The most important thing to remember with film is that the camera has no effect on the image quality: you only care about the lens. If you want rangefinder and Leica M glass a CL like mine or a Minolta CLE are a pretty easy entry point.

If you never used rangefinder cameras it鈥檚 a very different experience, you could pick up a cheap one with integrated lens and decide if you like it, the Canonet QL17 is a popular one, has a good luminous lens and can be had for less than $100.

If you want SLR you have ample choice, you can pick up an Olympus or Nikon everywhere and the lenses are usually fairly cheap.
