Back to the original Valjoux 7733 with this Dugena Monza Chronograph duo. The same case with its beautifully bevelled lugs and a clean bezel was also used by some other brands such as DeSotos, Gieves, Precimax, Rona, Sandoz, Temporis or Waltham, to name just a few.
I was googling the 773x and found this delightful thread. Here’s my Breitling ref 2030 Datora.
I discovered it a few years ago going down a small vintage watch rabbit hole. I can’t claim to be a big vintage collector but it did spark a minor obsession with racing dials.
Awesome watches and owned both, but they were just a tad too small for my preference. Does anyone know what/who offered the largest case sizes 42-44mm) for these fabulous movements??
My first vintage chrono, bought in the middle of 80s 😀.
Roamer Stingray Chrono Diver, ref 734.9120.900, Valjoux Cal. 7734. 43 mm. case. From 1972/3? Patented Roamer Anfibio watertight watchcase. Some pictures from when it was last serviced.
I add to this great thread an example of the forerunner Venus 188 movement (after 1966 the Valjoux 7730) just for some historical precedent. It has a 36mm case in 18k gold. Case back numbered 850 with Swiss 18K 0.750 gold hallmarks, maker’s mark 109 for Châtelain & Witz, fabrique Oréade, La Chaux-de-Fonds.
I picked this up from a French dealer - I could not resist the combination of a superb black dial, gold case and the highly regarded chronograph movement.
When this thread popped up again I thought "Oh yes, already posted mine" but despite triggering the expansion from the original 7733 thread to include all 773x variants with my 7730 post ....
..... they're gone!
So here are my 7730 and 7733 once more:
Bought in 1970 for road rallying, sitting here on a map from 1973.
With cross-country flying notes from a UAV course about 10 years ago. My handwriting has deteriorated badly 😲
