Gjessing, a former watchmaker in Drammen, Norway branded Alpina Cal. 516 in a Borgel case. Looks like he used the same font on the print as Alpina used.

Alpina Extreme Diver 1000m "Full Black" edition (AL-525LFB5FBAEV6):

Not vintage by any means. A large, heavy and not very legible edition, but it fits into my collection 😀

Some great Alpina watches on this thread. This is such a cool underrated brand that I absolutely love.

Here are my 3 Alpina watches in the collection. Two 598r and one 592r

This is one of my favourite Alpina Pocket Watches. You can stop the movement and have it set at exact time!
Box is not original but it fits fine...

If you pull the winding crown up to set the hands there is a block on one of the wheels that stops the movement......

Nice design, looks like a very thin watch. Any pictures on the movement?

Not sure if you mean mine ? Here’s a shot. It’s in the queue to get a service.

So I have bee
Thinking about this... honestly... that seems like something my grandfather might have done himself knowing him.
He fixed anything and everything and never replaced anything he could fix- no matter how big, small, simple, or complicated. Made beautiful simple practical furniture... he was the machinist for the Miami Herald until his retirement. The solid huge steel block used to print “The Miami Herald” is in the shed somewhere.
I honestly don’t know- maybe he took it in to get fixed at some point and a watchmaker.

although... I do wonder now!
Alright all- so I wanted to get the watch running, and I figured well... if any man can do it, this man can do it... so I bought some movements, cases, hands, faces, and got to work... I built 5 watches from scratch using (3) eta 2824 movements and (2) eta 2836 movements... matching meteor dial watches for the wife and I, a Tudor prince 34mm sterile watch for my daughter, a pilot style and a 36mm dress watch with a bright orange NOS O&W dial and hands
I knew I would screw it up and learn- and boy did I screw it up... over and over... I can now deal with ETA keyless works in my sleep- lol... once I felt confident enough, I broke open the alpina.
It is running and keeping -3 seconds per day, which is not perfect, but hell- I won’t be ticking at all when I’m as old as this watch.
so it looks the same and runs as well as possible without a full clean and rebuild.
I need a new mainspring and need to replace the keyless as winding skips- I have some chewed up teeth in the gear. Watching eBay for parts.

I’m no professional and it’s not perfect at all- but neither am I! And I have a few more watches to play with now to boot!

Done to the alpina- hand cleaned with alcohol to remove gummy buildup. I think my grandfather may have tried to fix it with random oil from his machinery... mobius greases and oils throughout and fixed the bumper and tightened it up- it was not mounted correctly and was not ratcheting.
When I find the spring and winding gear, it will get a full tear down and rebuild, clean the face and inside the Crystal, etc... I’m glad to have it running- the saltwater corroded the case so much in the Pacific during WWII that it is no longer water tight due to case corrosion (rusted out into the threads) but I am gonna wear it as much as I can- just not in the rain!

rotted case pic included. If y’all want to see the watches I made- I’ll be happy to post them. They are not any brand though- just my junk.

Practice watches... my daughter is wearing her watch... the O and W dial was eBay NOS- face and hands for like $60... I figured it came with a 2824 anyways so why not...

so one has to ask... these $199 movements I bought are standard in pretty much everything- and nice Swiss or French cases are $150 or so... hands like $30... bands are anywhere from $10-50... so am I paying $1000-$4000 extra for the brand name printed on the same machine? I mean... without complications... probably a thought for another forum. ‍♂️

not sure if redial, I like it no matter what, because movement, design, overall geometry are the way I like
the hour, minute, small second hands lengths are perfect
