Dropped one of my Wittnauer chronographs off this morning at my local watchmaker which also is an Omega AD. Got to talking with my usual contact about the precious metal Speedmasters and since we were in the Los Angeles area I figure it’s only fitting to tell it like the dialogue of a screen play might be written.

AD: Have you seen any person yet?

Me: I was lucky enough to see the Sedna Rose Gold at a nearby Omega Boutique but I’ve always been curious to see the Green Dial Moonshine Gold Speedmaster on the Bracelet.

AD: Ah, we don’t have the Moonshine Gold/Green Dial at the moment but would you like to see the Canopus Gold Speedmaster?

Me: (Holding back blurting out “Does a bear shit in the woods!?!?”) If you have the time and if it is alright for me to see them with just the intention of only looking for now, I’d love to see the Canopus Gold example.

AD: Of course that’s alright, I know you’re a big fan of the Speedmaster and this example is just too wonderful to miss seeing in person. I’ll go grab it from the back.

- Proceeds to leave to grab the watch and then returns with three boxes -

Me: (My face must have looked like a kid seeing presents & candy for the first time) This is really kind of you to take the time to show this to me.

AD: Oh it’s my pleasure! And we’re not busy yet today so this is a wonderful time for you to see them.

Me: Them?

AD: Well, I was mistaken, we actually had the Canopus Gold, the Sedna Gold and the Moonshine Gold Green Dial, all on bracelets, in stock.

Me: 😁

AD: Which one would you like to see first?

Me: Well I’ve got to wrists so could I try two at once? Hahaha

AD: Hahaha if you’d like, sure!

Me: No that would be too ridiculous, one at a time is totally fine. And since I may never see the Canopus gold again could we please start with that example?

AD: Of course!

I then proceeded to try them on and to cut to the chase for rewarding those of you wonderful OF members that made it this far, here are the photos. Full disclosure, I was way to preoccupied with being present and looking at the watches on my wrist that I only snapped one photo of the Canopus and Moonshine examples to show my wife and you all. Please excuse the fact that they’re not the best photos but I still wanted to share with you all.

Canopus Gold

The white gold is stunning in person! Truly it’s a wonderful example, but the one that took the cake for me was the….

Moonshine Gold with the Green Dial

I’ve never been partial to a yellow gold but moonshine gold is more subtle than the usual yellow gold seen on other watches, the combination of the gold with the green dial and bezel is just something else! It’s stunning!

Okay, that’s all, I’ll leave you all now to go save up every penny I can find to one day have a Moonshine Gold that I can call my own.

Bravo!! Great screen play! As I was reading along I could feel the tension mount as AD left to retrieve not one, not two, but three!!! three Speedmaster boxes!! Great stuff!! And really cool you had this experience, and shared it with us. I whole heartedly agree the gold and green Speedy is amazing! Thanks for sharing, and keep writing horological thrillers!

Thanks for sharing. That green dial moonshine gold is my favorite as well. If I came into a bunch of money that might be the first thing I buy. I also recently got the opportunity to try on a gold Speedmaster and it was really special. The heft of it feels amazing. I was never into gold but now I am.

Thanks all for the kind words on the write up! I definitely was having some fun with it.

"Horological thrillers" Great turn of a phrase! We may need to start a thread out of that.

They must have made your day??
Ha! They certainly did!

haha Dear Santa for sure!

The heft of it feels amazing. I was never into gold but now I am.
The heft of the watch was really remarkable for me as well. With the watches being solid gold it's obvious that they will weigh more but it was surprising how much different it was to the Stainless. And not a bad surprising but more of a "Wow! That's got a noticeably different weight to it!"

These are all beautiful watches. When I first saw the Green Dial on Bracelet, I knew I had to have it. Fast forward a year or so, and It's on my wrist as of about 3 days ago

Well done!
The Canopus is such a low key stunner, I love it.

I too was lucky enough to try on a little gold on a recent visit to my OB. The moonshine definitely has a subdued quality, it doesn’t scream gold like some other watches. Tempting to say the least!

Cheers,
-GW

I had previously thought that I didn't want any gold watches, so this had me thinking "oh man, I'm missing out!"

Yes!

That is a lovely 50th Anniversary Speedy example you have there!

A-may-zing! THANK you for your sacrifice for our benefit.
Ha, no sacrifice here! Happy to write about it and share it with you all.

Well done!

Agreed on both the low key Canopus and the subtle moonshine gold. Maybe it was just because I was so stoked on seeing them in person but I felt that for both of the examples, while in precious metal, could definitely daily wears due to how comfortably they wear but also because for me they didn't scream "GOLD!".

The rubber strap moonshine example is also really nice! I know the speedy is not a diver in any sense but I'm really starting to dig how it looks on the rubber strap.

This moonshine gold on rubber hits all the right spots for me! Someday!
