These Seiko A829 sports alarm wrist chronographs were first worn on Columbia STS-05 in November 1982... up to Discovery STS-110 in April 2002... two decades !
These Seiko sports alarm chronograph wrist watches could be purchased by the astronaut as Charlie Walker mentioned in an interview and these quartz watches were also used by ESA astronauts (e.g. Ulf Merbold onboard the Mir space station in 1994).

I have set my calendar alerts to order one on 11/1. It'll give me something to alternate with my X-33 when I need lots of bells and whistles on my watch at work.

Lucky man! Had a quick look at some originals, but they're more scarce and expensive than I expected. Would be interesting to see old and new side by side, if you're getting one of the new ones too!

I'll share some side-by-side pics when I get one in. Can't wait for sales to go live in the states.

Did I misread the release timeline? I thought they went on sale soon, but I see places saying they won't ship until April? 🙁

Final remark: This is exactly how any space watch should be re-issued !
.
Seiko reintroduced classic '80s Seiko 829 "Astronaut"
October 2025 saw the new Seiko Rotocall quartz digital Alarm chronograph based on the 1982 original Seiko A829-6019. As far as we know all versions have been used in NASA training and in two decades inactual spaceflight since space shuttle Columbia mission STS-5 in November 1982 to space shuttle "Atlantis" STS-110 in April 2002.
The lightblue versions was most common among spacefarers but the black-red version has been worn during space shuttle missions 51A "Discovery", 51B "Challenger" and 51F "Challenger".
Note the 8-sided bezel which is to be used with 8 different functions. Models came on a metal bracelet or rubber strap. Now that's exactly how a space watch should be re-introduced!

Dang, I really wish they'd hurry up and release it in the US. It's strange that they are rolling it out this way. Are they just hoping that they can wait for tariffs to get rolled back?
