Seiko 6117-6010 World Time Error Bezel question

I've been offered the following for about 550 USD including taxes. It's advertised as a 68, but I'm fairly sure it's from August 1969, right? As I understand it, this version of the bezel (with London separate from GMT, Cairo, etc.) would be correct for this time period, right?

If so, what do you all think of the price? The bracelet is probably not worth anything, the case is honest but not great, and although it runs fine, a service would probably be necessary. Also, I'd probably only buy it to pass it along here (at cost, of course), as I can't really justify owning it myself for very long at the moment at that price. But if this is actually a good deal, I'd happily accept the offer or pass along the auction info (although I've been trying to work this seller down to a fair price for a couple of weeks).

When you run the serial number through a Seiko serial decoder what’s the date?

550 for a decent condition 6117 seems like a decent deal.

I don’t follow the world timers as much as I prefer the navigator timers.

It has a huge amount of info. Dan, the guy who set it up is a great resource and he has more world timers than anyone I have seen!

Thanks for that website. That's very helpful. I had stumbled upon part of the website once before but couldn't find it again.

It seems that the GMT hand isn't moving (I should have noticed that in the photos sooner), so I think I'll probably end up passing unless the seller will come down quite a bit more. Thanks for the help!

I guess all that would be relevant, if it was the right watch 😉 Across the board vintage Seiko has drastically fallen in price. Im paying a lot less for 6139’s than I used to.

Yep. The early days of the internet (10 years ago) they were plentiful and reasonably cheap.

But these days people search the internet for their watch, and see pristine untouched examples going for fair value, so they think that's the price they deserve for their waterlogged beaten up clunker.

There are still some good ones at decent prices to be had though, it just takes patience and luck.

I think you may have missed my point. You put up an image of a page of 6217’s for sale. We are talking about a 6117. Very different price points Also, I’m currently paying a lot less for 6139’s than previously. As in, right now they are cheap compared to 12-24 months ago…

Even for a decent 6217 world time, none of those prices are realistic (now or before the market softened on hot Seiko). $1500AUD tops, but most would trade below $1k.

What do you consider ‘affordable’? I just serviced one for a client and he may be looking to pass it on. It will have a premium though, as it has just been serviced. Properly.

People are crazy. I have a 64 world timer I purchased here for a reasonable price from a cool member. Tbh I just really like the looks of them. The OP’s looks nice as well. Might wear mine today but I know it’s nowhere near as valuable as what these people are asking. Doesn’t matter to me, I get watches I like.

I agree, the 6217s are generally at a higher price point than 6117, especially the examples from 1964 with a decent Olympic torch case-back. And as Ashton noted, they don't actually sell for thousands (even of AUD) in my experience. I think a pristine example with the original bracelet might approach $2k USD between collectors. The condition of the case-back is often the giveaway for condition.

Interesting that you're seeing a drop in 6139 prices. In the references I follow closely (mostly early divers, world-timers, and early 60s sport models), the prices seem pretty flat. I wish they would drop!

During pandemic times an average (original) looking blue dial 6139-6002/5 were selling for around $1000. These days they are going from $300-$400. I put one up on eBay and got $350 for it as the final bid.

Ouch. 🙁 One issue with 6139s may be the epidemic of pieces with aftermarket parts. I think many buyers are just scared to buy them.

It’s not actually a sad story. The customer wanted it shipped, insured to Australia and the Canada Post price was quite expensive to get it there. He was a little shocked and I was more than happy to cancel the deal if he was hesitant. We both came out very happy!
