Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experience with S G Taylor's in Somerset?

There's an entry for Stephen Taylor on the BHI website, but Stephen was the founder of the business in 1932, so I'm not sure if the entry is for him, or for the current operator of the business?

https://bhi.co.uk/repairers/stephen-taylor

Would appreciate any information, I'm new to the world of vintage watches, and understandably want the best outcome for my watch!

Many thanks,

Two things.

First, ring them up and ask about the service. They may well say that they need to examine it first although, if it’s just for a service that shouldn’t really be necessary.

Second, ask if they do the work in-house, or send elsewhere and, if the latter, where they send it. Ideally, you want either in-house or to actually speak with the repairer and send it to him/her direct without the need to pay the ‘middleman’.

You don’t mention the make of watch. Some repairers prefer to work on particular makes eg. Omega, and you should ask if the company have a preferred watch make(s).

I’m in London and in the past, not for about 2/3 years I used Armstrong Watch Repair in Waterlooville. Mr Armstrong works from home and is reasonably priced and did good work for me on various makes of watches.

Another Hampshire watch repairer is Stephen Mangan. I used him once but won’t use him again.

Good advice, thanks very much

Perhaps the current owner is Stephen Taylor II.
Or maybe he has a philosopher's stone.
