hi all,
The chrome coating is quite worn. Should I keep it as it is or renew chrome coating?

Preserve the watch as is. Kinda a watch version of a rat rod. Looks great.

Imagine that glorious dial in a shiney shiney new-looking case!
NO. Leave the case alone and enjoy that beautiful dial.

I approve of the strap too 👍

I've never said "dibs" on a Rolex before, but this one, yes.

The only thing that matters in this case is your personal preference. And since you are asking, it's probably because you think you would get more joy from a re-chromed case. So yes, I think you should do it.

I'd give less money for a re-chrome job than that Rolex as is.

Agree is up to you, but I would leave as is in original condition - great old watch.

It's an old watch that's been well used. Wear it as is, if the state of the case bothers you you probably should have passed at buying it. But it's your watch and you can do what you want with it.

I am happy to have had mine done. It’s not really a watch that is worth a gazillion dollars, and I use it more now than I would if left unplated. Replatit did a good job, so did Canuck.

I wouldn’t know thin Chinese chrome plating if I dropped the watch on my big toe.

thank you all!
I liked the watch the way it was. But every time I wear it, someone asks me why I didn't get it re-plated or the dial cleaned. I started to think there was something wrong with me 😀 but it's good to see that I'm not alone.. I'll keep it as it is👍

Just reply to them "You don't know much about vintage watches do you".

I'm in the leave it alone group.

… I started to think there was something wrong with me…

You’re a watch collector, you have earned your psychosis and should be proud of it.

That is absolutely amazing! What a transformation! I´m usually in the "leave-it-as-it-is" camp, but when I see the work done on your watch...

I would usually say leave it as is, but do look at the amazing transformation of DuraCuir1´s watch. Only you can decide. I´ve no idea what the water resistance is on your watch (if any!), but I´d at least have the gaskets checked. Water ingress will quickly rust and destroy any movement...I´ve been there! Cheers!
