I’m offering for sale this rare example of the “Big Scarab,” straight from the early 1940s!
The Omega “Big Scarab” is a rare vintage watch from the 1940s, admired for its bold and distinctive design. Its nickname comes from the large specific lugs, reminiscent of a scarab’s legs. It often features the renowned Omega 30T2 movement, celebrated for its reliability and precision. The 35mm steel case was considered large for its time, adding to its charm. A highly sought-after piece among collectors, it stands out for its unique and elegant aesthetic.
This specific watch, which I’m pleased to offer to the forum friends, features an extraordinarily beautiful dial: white, with an “eggshell” patina that takes on a slightly creamy hue under the right lighting. The finish is “grené,” a rare and delicate texture that is harder to find than the classic smooth dials (we often see it on Rolex watches from the same era). The layout is clean and minimalist, yet full of character. The curved logo is period-correct. The blued sword hands add a strong personality to the piece, which in my opinion is full of charm.
The movement is running well and keeps good time, but I don’t know the date of its last service.
