My thoughts are that it is a below average condition gold top C-case with aftermarket 'diamonds' on the dial.

I think only solid gold watches would have OEM diamond dials.

Even though the 1xxx series movements are notoriously plain and under decorated, that one is so low rent as to make me think it’s not chronometer rated at all. The 1021 has adjustments statements stamped on the plates so I don’t think it’s that, meaning it’s possibly a non rated 1020 or 1022 ie a Franken.

Whatever, it’s certainly not from Omega’s golden era and not one I would chase at any price.

Otherwise, there is no difference in the rated vs. non-rated movements.

Yes, I looked again and it seems as you say the 1021 puts it all on the sticker, there is nothing else to differentiate. I would also add that at 37m the watch serial is later than 1972 (if that matters to the OP), more like 1973-5 by my rough estimation. Bad boi indeed, bad as in just bad!

Really interesting insight. The seller noted 1972 and I had absolutely no luck finding anything relevant to origins or comparables. I def know that the band is not original, but one thing that intrigues me is the 'diamonds'. I fully understand this is not an iced out version or some standalone piece of art for lack of a better term. Would you say the 'diamonds' are VVS1 quality, or anything to really talk about? You would think given the year and the cost they would be of somewhat quality. I am not assuming F's

Also, really interested in replacing the crystal on the front of the watch. Certified resellers I would peg at about $200+ and I was thinking of attempting myself, was thinking roughly $75. If anyone knows where I can get or be navigated closer to where I can find the replacement would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I just talked to Omega and because its over 25 years old to get a professional service it would need to be sent back to Switzerland and could take 3-6 months. This was not the hottest piece I ever acquired haha.

I'd be extremely surprised if anyone would be able to confidently evaluate the 'diamonds' on the dial based on that terrible out of focus picture that you provide.

I personally would not pump any watch into this watch at all as it would be very very hard to recuperate it later

Note that the picture I posted was from another watch (in fact a cal. 1011, not a 1021). The movement picture provided was too out of focus to use.

To the OP, there is no question in my mind that the “diamonds” on the dial are after market. You should take the watch to a jeweler who can ascertain if they are the real deal, paste or cubic zirconium. None of us are going to be able to tell you anything from a 2 dimensional picture.

Regarding the crystal, I would recommend spending $10 on some Polywatch (google it please) before changing the crystal. If there is an Omega symbol in the center, than at least it is likely a factory crystal.

It does, thanks. I think it's a resounding 'return/defected'. I am not hearing any positives vibes on it. It's like a lemon of a watch.

Lol! I gathered that. I am not a 90 year old greek man. It's resounding. Im a big boy, and I love the honesty. Changing the time, date, day of week is a nightmare with a 50 year old object. It's a resounding return.

I believe cicindela meant the strap is too narrow for the space between the lugs 😉 Should have been another ~2 mm wide.

It's a clear half ass fix. I've confirmed the 'diamonds' are aftermarket which is fueling the conversation.
