Question regarding how to remove a Seiko diver bezel and insert.

Howdy, folks...wishing everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day as we remember and pay tribute to our fallen brothers and sisters.

I was wondering how the rotatable bezel on my Seiko 6309-7049 may be removed in order to install the original bezel insert [pictured below on the right] back on my 6309. A less worn bezel insert was installed [at my request] when I had the watch serviced a few years ago...but now I have a hankering to have the original back on the watch [difficult to explain...other than I'd like to have the original back on].

Any tips regarding bezel removal and insert removal would be appreciated...it's something I'd like to do myself.

DOH! 馃槻

EDIT ADDITION: Using my trusty Omega Speedy Gonzales presentation box set loupe, I was able to locate an engineered recess at the base of the bezel. Gave the Bergeon No 4932 case back opener the old college try at the engineered recess location and the bezel popped right off.

Now how do you get the insert out?
Good question...that's what I'm trying to determine right now. The insert is in the bezel fairly tightly...I'd like to get the insert out without damaging [bending] it.

Well...that's beyond my pay grade...and I might be venturing into "bad physics land". I ventured into "bad physics land" when I was 4 [1968] when I attempted [unsucessfully] to fly off our garage roof utilizing my mother's green umbrella.

Ummm...no...Mary Poppins was successful regarding her "bad physics land" umbrella flying [which to this day, I believe, gives good kids bad ideas]. The only thing I was successful with regarding my Mad Dog Poppins evolution was that I put a humongous dent in the lawn...but at least I had sense enough to launch in the lawn direction and not the driveway direction.

A word of warning, watch the click ball doesnt fall out and get lost. Some of these are tight fitting but some are just sitting on top of the spring and can easily fall off.

Also the bezel insert could be interference fit into the bezel and may not necessarily have glue under it. I would just google how to change the bezel insert on a Seiko 6309, it will be covered extensively due to the popularity of these watches and modifying them too

If you do take out the insert, make sure you install the bezel on the watch before fitting the insert to ensure the insert lines up correctly with the watch

Collin, I had one off a couple of months ago and I think there is a recess on the bottom of the "ring" that you can use a fine blade to ease the insert up.

I'll have a look tomorrow, it's nightcap time and Scotch and sharp fine blades and tinkerin' do not go together.

To be honest, I didn't consider how I was going to press the bezel back on. I figured that it came off so easily with the Bergeon case back opener that it wouldn't be an issue.

No worries, though...it snapped right back on using my thumbs. I got nervous last night after reading pascs's previous post about the click ball so I decided to put the bezel back on so I wouldn't possibly lose the click ball.
