Question about the 6000 series (strap/bracelet)

Curious as to what year TAG switched from screws to spring bars. Anybody know? Thanks.

This from the TAG Heuer website....

"Bracelets on the first 6000 watches were fixed to the case with small screws, rather than by using spring bars. Later versions (denoted by the “-2” after the model number on the back of the case) have traditional spring bars and proved to be more robust."

My 1994 TAG Heuer 6000 Senna came on the strap with screws
but it also works with springbars on the bracelet I bought in 2019, so its case can use both systems

@Albert-AMG - I am understanding correctly that the WH1114 can be fitted with a regular spring bar and leather strap? Or does that just work with the dedicated Tag Heuer steel bracelet?

Any guidance is much appreciated, as I am struggling to find a strap solution for my Senna.

Yes, the WH1114 can work with both systems: screws for the original black leather strap (that you can order using the part number FC6030)

and spring bars for the original steel bracelet (that you can order using the part number BA0675)

BTW, if you also own a 6000 Senna WH1114, please inform us which number XXX/1000 is, so @Mspeedster could update the list of forum members owning this watch:

Many thanks Albert - much appreciate the quick feedback. I have the watch with the original leather strap, which is now ruined from frequent wear, which is why I'm looking for a replacement solution - possibly bracelet if I can find one, or perhaps a custom strap, as FC6030 seems impossible to find.

My watch is no. 314/1000 - purchased new when it first came out.

An original owner, awesome! I'll add you to our owners' list. Would love to see a pic of your watch.

Regarding an OEM strap replacement, have you checked with your local TAG Boutique? I was able to order new replacement 6000 straps in Navy blue and Black from a boutique earlier this year. It was the pin buckle type though, I didn't inquire about the folding clasp FC6030 as mine is still in NOS condition.

Hey thanks Mspeedster! The watch is at my family home, so i'll take a picture next time I'm there, unless I can find some old ones on my phone. Be warned though - I wear it regularly so its not as pristine as your beautiful examples.

I did not check with the TAG Boutique, other than for the bracelet, which I will probably get so can have the watch in either configuration. For the leather strap - it might seem sacrilege - but was thinking of a bespoke 'racing style' strap. I've had some gorgeous straps made for some of my other watches, and am tempted to do the same for the Senna. Feel free to call me nuts 😀

Both the original steel bracelet and the original leather strap are very specifically designed for the 6000 case, and a 6000 looks quite odd when it’s on a generic strap 😏… even more so when we're talking about such a special and historic version as the 6000 Senna.

Six years ago, I found it very easy to acquire both original options for the WH1114 (FC6030 leather strap and BA0675 steel bracelet) from my TAG Heuer Authorized Dealer in Barcelona, and at very reasonable prices, so they're probably still available from TAG Heuer. I would try to order them at your TAG Heuer boutique before fitting a non-original strap/bracelet 😉

About seven years ago I was told that TAG could supply the 6000 bracelet, at the time it cost £350 IIRC.

Point well made Albert - I fully understand that view.

I think I will go for the steel bracelet as my daily wear, and get an FC6030 as a spare, as I can imagine these will be increasingly difficult to source.

Yes, this was the impression the Boutique gave me when I purchased my straps earlier this year. The standard 6000 had a wide variety of strap color options, some of which are no longer easy or possible for the Boutiques to get.

The 6000 Senna is a very special piece. As you've owned yours since back in the day, I think it deserves both the bracelet and OEM strap if you can get both. You can always fit a custom strap for fun too.
