·My incomings have been rather slow (but exceptional - to me - especially the vintage ones) the last few years. I'm kinda bored with the same old same old when it comes to watches. I am no hoarder, however, I really don't need any more watches, and to add a watch to the stable now means it has to be something that I simply can not let pass. Nothing modern tickles my fancy at the moment, and most of what is vintage that may tickle me is just plain crap (sorry to say, but I am a pedant, and I am fine with that 😀 )
I have added 6 watches to the stable the last couple of years...two of them are modern, so don't count, two of them were also the result of perfect timing (but not dibs, so don't count) ... and two were perfectly timed dibses.
What also is an uncanny coincidence, is they are somehow connected : the (now) friend who I bought the first watch from, sent me a link to an article (about one of the not-dibses-so-don't-count-for-this-thread-watches), which I read and then subsequently dibsed watch #2...et voila ... it is all his fault 😀
Its worth noting at this point that 99% of the time I use 'dibs' as the laziest (but highest!) form of compliment. Lazy because DIBS is four letters, and to give a thing of beauty a proper complement is an essay. I reserve 1% due to the prudence concept.
How to define a perfectly timed dibs? To me its a dibs (complementary or not) done at the exact point in time that the dibsee (unknown to the dibser) is thinking about selling the dibsed watch (edit: and has done nothing about it), which very promptly results in an agreement being struck.
Both watches have essentially the same movement...and both are what I call RAF watches (rare as f...) ... in either configuration or condition (the older is what I call a MAF (yes, you guessed it) or CCCCC watch) ...
Perfectly Timed Dibs #1
Not the most desirable model from Omega ... but I find it beautiful, and quite like the case on-wrist. Its essentially no different to a Speedmaster from that era (and likely would have passed NASA's testing too) ... it has a Lemania CH27 (derivative) ... its exotic...and there are far less of these around then the similar exotic racing Speedmaster's ... score in my book ..
Perfectly Timed Dibs #2
Best adjectivie for this is an ironic 'ridiculous' ... all factory finishes on the case (including chamfers) still present... perfect radium (no radium burn either, dial has no paint to burn) ... it looks different at every angle due to the dial brushing in the different sub-circles ... just a dream. Some of you may recognize this one. Some of you think 'tag it and preserve it for the museum' ...well FFFF that! Also Lemania CH27 (derivative).
I am most certainly not the only one ... anyone else got some perfectly timed dibses to share?
Edit: please note: these watches are un-dibs-able 😀
