I recently acquired a job lot of old watches from a retired watchmakers inventory. The vast majority, literally 99.9 % was pure junk but this little Peerex intrigued me. Even though the dial is heavily patinated, there is something about the blue steeled hands, and steel case that makes me feel its worth saving. The movement is decent quality too but what is it. The information I have found suggested that Peerex often used Buser movements but so far I have been unable to identify it as such. I need a stem and a crown. If I could get these I maybe tempted to try a restoration. If anyone recognises this movement I would be grateful.

I think it is a Buser, maybe cal 26. What is the diameter?

And FWIW, here is the only mikrolisk entry for Peerex. It doesn't mean much to me, unfortunately.

No there isn't a great deal of information out there on the brand. My intention is to attempt to clean the dial and see what I am left with. If I bungle it then hey ho but if I can improve it somewhat I shall purchase a stem and crown so then at least its complete. I just can't live with that much patina.

From my experience, there are definitely people who would appreciate that dial.

It actually looks better in the photo than it does in the metal. I know what you mean though.

Danwales.... did you get any further with your Peerex at all? I for one certainly appreciate that dial patina just as it is! Does it have a 5 digit serial number on the case back at all?

I recently picked one up myself... running sweetly and with a little patina. Mine has fixed bars however.

Just for reference, here is a picture i grabbed from a random online sales post from a few years ago which shows an identical watch to mine, albeit without the patina. Nice matching detailing around the outer dial and on the subdial. I was quite happy to see another case the same as mine. I gather the Peerex name wasn't registered until 1939 so I am assuming this to be from the 1940's or 50's? I guess dating the movement itself will help with this (I haven't opened mine up yet). It's 34mm without the crown.

I was just about to say the same - i was casually looking for a Bonklip for mine yesterday, but i don't really know enough about them to pick a period-correct one i don't think. They do suit them though - very nice.

Yeah, I bought the watch and then happened upon an eBay POS watch on the Bonklip, put in a low bid and spawned a win. I seem to remember about £20 so a bargain!

Nice! What is the lug width of that strap please? Also - does your case have a 5 digit serial number on the back?

P4ul - there is a sister watch to yours on eBay right now, with the same case (and 0155 number inside) and a serial number of 30994 so only 29 away from yours. Second hand looks to be missing though.

Shame about the second hand, they are nicely blued which doesn’t show up on the pics.

Hiya mate. Alas no. I haven't got any further. Other projects simply took precedent. One day though.
